Happy ‘Chewbacca’ Day!!!

Meowkapow wished me “Happy Chewbacca Day” at 8 in the morning… Have you ANY idea how awesome it is to have a girlfriend say “Happy Chewbacca Day” at all??????

IT’S UUBER AWESOME THAT’S HOW AWESOME!!!

This animal knew how to PAR-TAY! Some are choosing to celebrate simply by changing their Facebook profile picture (a campaign has begun to remember Chewbacca by converting your profile picture on Tuesday, October 5) to something wookie related.

Other’s are a little more hardcore and have suggested talking like Chewie himself for the day – This might be of use:

Adorable – new wallpaper me thinks! Me thinks what is also being thunk is why is Chewie Day today of all days? Well it has something to do with a Star Wars novel – Geeks man, we’re crazy folks:

Tuesday October 5 is a day of mourning for Star Wars fans. It was this date in 1999 that Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Vector Prime by R. A. Salvatore was released by Del Rey.

The book, which was the first installment in the epic New Jedi Order series featured the heroic, yet tragic, death of the beloved Chewbacca.

Chewie, as he is commonly known, was first introduced to us in the movie, Star Wars, in 1977. He was the co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon and best friend to Han Solo. He was a strong warrior, brilliant mechanic, fantastic pilot, nobel, and loyal to the end.

In this book… Han Solo, then an Imperial Lieutenant, forfeited his career as an Imperial and rescued Chewbacca from death. For this act, Chewie felt he owed Han a life debt which later included Han’s wife, Leia Organa Solo, and children Anakin, Jacen, and Jaina Solo.

Chewbacca died helping young Anakin Solo rescue children from the destruction of the world Sernpidal. Anakin was forced to choose saving his family over Chewbacca, a decision even his father found hard to accept, “You left him, you left Chewie!”

Chewbacca is, to date, the only major character from the original Star Wars trilogy to be killed off in the Expanded Universe books.
