Ballroom National Preliminaries 2010 [F]

The photo below was taken from the bleachers where I watched amateur-to-professional level ballroom dancing take place. The only thing I have to compare this artform to are classic Walt Disney pictures. But these people, young (very young) and old (very old) were doing it in front of my eyes (Modern Ballroom, Latin & American, New Vogue, etc) which was very entertaining to watch. For the first few hours at least, hehe:

The 50’s have been kept alive (terrible selection of 1950’s dance music though. Yeah, I know a few). This was so out of the norm for me but I wasn’t there for myself. I was there to support my immensely talented little brother, Kaig. I think he’s so cool. Cooler than I ever was at his age. All I did was squish mudbubbles between my fingers on the lawn and cry over ripped comicbook pages, lost marbles and bent Spiderman cards… *weeps*  These folk knew how to dance. Much better than Richard Gere and Jenifer Lopez ever convinced me of. Yes, my repute for watching inane television is vast.

Kaig did supremely well, but most importantly, he had fun dancing with his partner and being active. He knows I’m proud of him, but it will take a few more years before he understands how much of a motivation and role model he is to me.
