ALTERED STATES (1980) Directed by Ken Russell – RIP
For a long time now I have been searching for ‘Altered States’ on DVD. I found a copy last weekend when I signed up to my local video store and watched it the day that Ken Russell passed away (3 July 1927 – 27 November 2011)

Russell (84) will be forever remembered as a controversial and visionary artist with something of a third eye when it came to making oddball dramas that have captivating images and themes.
I had no idea what to expect of this film and I was blown away by its depth, special effects, psychedelia and by William Hurt’s standout debut performance, so if you’re as keen as I was you can relax, I’m not going to drop any spoilers. But I will say; If you love immersing yourself in a good science-fiction story, then ‘Altered States’ will definitely warp your mind through a vortex of reverence and existential fear.
