The Amorphophallus titanum, aka the “corpse flower” is said to be flowering sometime this weekend at the Auckland Domain Wintergarden. When it blooms, a huge column at the heart of the flower will rise towards the sky and give off a stench resembling decomposing flesh, a supposed pheromone for insects.
The New Zealand annual Ukulele Festival is happening at Waitakere Trusts Arena which is a great event that promotes to engage with children, no matter their circumstances, to experience the many benefits of being engaged with music. My cousins will be there performing.
It also happens to be Beer Appreciation Day IV, held this year in Auckland for the first time at Pioneer Women’s and Ellen Melville Hall. Try a selection of beers from some of best of breweries, including Parrotdog, Garage Project, Liberty, Hallertau, Zeelandt, Tuatara, Bach Brewing, and more.
The largest community-run festival in New Zealand is the iconic Grey Lynn Park festival, also happening today.
Beautiful things happening today, and I’m going to lock myself in a dark theater with strangers for 24hours. Oy vey.
