Self-alleged schizophrenic, Thamsanqa Jantjie, the man who was paid to stand feet away from high profile persons during Mandela’s memorial ceremony and flap his hands and pretend like he wasn’t getting his kicks, has been reported to have an extensive criminal record. According to South African news network eNCA, Thamsanqa Jantjie has “faced rape (1994), theft (1995), housebreaking (1997), malicious damage to property (1998), murder, attempted murder and kidnapping (2003) charges.” …What the?

The plot thickens. What this story needs is some solid investigative research — otherwise known as cross referencing — instead of going on Jantjie’s word, let’s see medical records or at least some testimonials from a few satisfied employers. Not that I care about Thamsanqa Jantjie as much as Barack Obama’s Secret Service, or South Africans who deplore his actions as a national embarrassment, but I for one would like to see some honesty come out of this blown-up story.
