Created for the College for Creative Studies in Detroit Michigan, these cleverly spoofed anti-drug PSA’s have definite advertising effectiveness and fun while trying to recruit new students. I laughed, I reminisced and I believe there are some truths in these faked sentiments, adding to their effective charm. I like it.
Matthijs Vlot reinterprets Lionel Richie’s Hello with clips from awesome films. Watching most of these actors deliver their lines in this context is cheesy to me but I still like it. The POV finish is a nice touch too:
Fairy tale palaces, towering pagodas, and even an Egyptian Sphinx; Harbin’s ‘Ice City’ is a winter wonderland carved entirely from ice.
I’ve written about this before, and I’m still impressed by the level of craftsmanship involved in creating these colourful walk-through sculptures. Yup, totally added to my list of travel destinations:
The annual Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival has been held since 1963, interrupted for a number of years during the Cultural Revolution until it was resumed in 1985.
Harbin is the capital of Heilongjiang province, in northeastern China.
WOW! I love how synchronized everyone’s awe of amazement is and how it grows with the scale of the fireworks bloom. I could watch that on loop and never get board.
An overwhelming surge of excitement ran through me when I saw this video. The prospect of me being a hyper-velocity hovercraft racer in the future is an awesome thought, especially considering the WipEout series and Quantum Redshift are the few racing games I love and will ever touch (Mario Kart too ;)). This brings back memories:
But I suspect the video above is a well executed promotional CGI fake, which now feels like a kick in the nads. But, I couldn’t let that surge just die so I did some research on superconductivity and found that ‘QuantumLevitation‘ exists and the physics behind magnetic flux is so plausible that I have no doubt in my mind, we could be seeing hover tracks and gravity defying maneuvers in the future …Or just monorails and more public transport…
How funking awesome is that!
And then there’s this guy, Malte Jehmlich, a geek with lots of cardboard, a web-cam and an RC car! His hobby project/interactive video game installation actually works at recreating the blinding speed and fun of the Playstation original. Only problem is, I can’t play it – it’s in Germany:
