•February 5, 2012 • Leave a CommentI attended a birthday party yesterday and there were a fair few conversations throughout the night on the topic of prequels, remakes and reboots of classic films — mostly science fiction films oddly enough — Blade Runner, Total Recall, Prometheus, et cetera. Nothing heated, just shared opinions about our understanding of why Hollywood has been pretty shit in that department lately.
Whether studios are faithfully trying to recapture the essence of what made such films great and feel good or are just trying to create a new way of looking at the same world/story, Hollywood just seems to fail every time and appear to be in it only for our money. I don’t like the idea of cloning; if something unique exists/existed why exploit that?
I just read an article about “Short Circuit” (1986) and how it will be rewritten for a potential family movie franchise remake by Matt Lieberman. Who is he you ask? Why he’s the genius head writer and story dude behind the 2008 direct-to-video masterpiece ‘Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief’ …Can’t wait. Need Input!
“Hello” [mashup/montage]
•January 29, 2012 • Leave a CommentMatthijs Vlot reinterprets Lionel Richie’s Hello with clips from awesome films. Watching most of these actors deliver their lines in this context is cheesy to me but I still like it. The POV finish is a nice touch too:
Suck it SOPA!
‘ICE CITY’ – Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival 2012
•January 22, 2012 • Leave a CommentFairy tale palaces, towering pagodas, and even an Egyptian Sphinx; Harbin’s ‘Ice City’ is a winter wonderland carved entirely from ice.
I’ve written about this before, and I’m still impressed by the level of craftsmanship involved in creating these colourful walk-through sculptures. Yup, totally added to my list of travel destinations:

The annual Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival has been held since 1963, interrupted for a number of years during the Cultural Revolution until it was resumed in 1985.
Harbin is the capital of Heilongjiang province, in northeastern China.
