•July 12, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Achuta, If you have the force to participate in this, I envy you. This will be pure fun on a bun yellow block letters scrolling to heavenly wizardry!

Star Wars: Uncut gives fans a chance to retell A New Hope; the movie will be split into 472 clips, likely of varying quality but all better than Phantom Menace:

Hello! You and 472 other people have the chance to recreate Star Wars: A New Hope. Below is the entire movie split up into 15 second clips. Click on one of the scenes to claim it, film it, and upload it. You can have up to three scenes! When we’re all done, we’ll stitch it all together and watch the magic happen.

I can’t wait to see what you guys create. The end result will hopefully be littered with home movies, animation, live action, abstract, comedy, or even stop motion. Pull out those old Star Wars toys!

It’s only been 48 hours and there already have been 218 scenes claimed!

Can I join in, somebody?!

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost give us a more detailed look at the cast and crew of ‘Paul‘:

PAUL is a comedy about two sci-fi geeks who embark upon a pilgrimage in a RV to the center of America’s UFO heartland: Nevada’s infamous Area 51. While in the middle of that desert, the two friends encounter a fugitive alien by the name of Paul. Somewhat reluctantly, they embark upon an adventure that will change not just their lives forever, but also the lives of the friends and enemies they encounter along the way.

Pornography: Big business, Big consequences by Steve Cornell [motivation for purity]

This is a comment response to my ‘Ukraine banned porn’ post, and I really liked it. Steve gives some interesting facts and divulges into some biblical morals that really made me think about some of my own indulgent actions.

Porn revenue in the US is larger than all combined revenues of all professional football, baseball and basketball franchises. US porn revenue exceeds the combined revenues of ABC, CBS, and NBC. There are 4.2 million pornographic web sites and 68 million daily search requests for pornography. 116 thousand of these are requests for child pornography.

Just heard this song coming from the living room and it made me sing. It’s a great classic Kiwi anthem from the 80’s:

Cool huh; if you liked that
I recommend you find and watch the animated NZ film ‘Footrot Flats’.

The Cyborg Robot Name Decoder

I found this over on Geekologie, gave it a crack and was pleasantly surprised by its super-sophisticated decoding. I am a Neohuman and yes I do yell before an assassination, logically of course. I do suggest you try it: Comply

Hiii-larious!

Comedy Central’s new show Tosh.0 put together this compilation of Asian people doing impressions of Christopher Walken. Some are good but, overall, it’s just an amusing juxtaposition.

Superbot: The Real Transformer

•July 9, 2009 • Leave a Comment

NASA’s ambitious plan to create transforming self-configuring robots is very sci-fi, but judging by these pictures they seem to be well on there way:

Two Legs

Superbot’s modular design shows the ability to create a two-legged robot.

Cool huh, but I’m pretty sure this is just NASA’s entry for RobotWars. They just haven’t attached the flamethrower yet.

NASA wanted a robot that could start as 100 blocky modules dropped from an airplane to a desert, reconfigure into a rover that could drive to a sand dune, and then change again to “grow” legs and climb up it. Once the blocky robot reached the top, it would transform into a greenhouse that could protect a group of seeds for two weeks.

Four Legs

Superbot’s modular design allows it to reconfigure and have any number of legs.

No Legs (snake mode)

Superbot’s flexible design allows it to travel using a variety of sizes and shapes.

Take a whole stack of Post-It notes, add a warehouse type building with blue Donkey Kong-like railings and you’ve got a quick internet classic. Is it just me, or are Post-Its quickly becoming the media of choice for the 21st century?

Brazil Remembers MJ With Moonwalker Pixel Art

Moonwalker in Brazil

Given Brazil’s infatuation with the Mega Drive (a love that’s still strong today thanks to licensed system clones from Tectoy), it’s no surprise that the country is remembering recently departed Michael Jackson with Moonwalker pixel art like this piece, spotted in São Paulo.

Local artists Bruno Pugens, Rafael Aguiar, and Jeng also printed out and put up a few Moonwalker posters of their own, which you can see below. They’ve also posted photos of the posters being put together. [via gamesetwatch.com]
