Heavy Loader from James Cameron’s AVATAR

The statue/model/robot is on display at E3 outside Ubisoft’s booth for the corresponding video game which will release alongside the film. Up until now, specific details and visuals from the film have been pretty scarce.

For those unfamiliar, Avatar is a 3D film set to take place in the 22nd century. The basic premise is that humans visit a distant moon full of giant blue aliens using genetically engineered “avatars” that they mentally inhabit [and it was filmed here in New Zealand]

Cameron says the film was inspired by all the sci-fi books he read as a child.

Sacha Baron Cohen as Bruno at the MTV Movie Awards

The other day I woke up to some of the best Internet entertainment I’ve seen in a long time. The MTV Movie Awards with Sasha Baron Cohen presenting an award as Bruno.

Lets just say things turned upside down with hilarious consequences. At first I thought Eminem might be in on it, but that thought was short lived when the MegaLolz came:

LOLZOR, how many f-bombs did Eminem drop while balancing Bruno’s nut sack on his chin?

[Project Natal] Motion Sensing Controller for XBOX 360

•June 3, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Cool. Move over Nintendo Wii

We all knew it was eventually coming, well here we finally go! The simple tagline explains it all, You are the controller!

There will be a motion sensor camera that senses your every move, from driving to fighting. You will use your entire body to interact with the game with the use of full body motion capture. You can use your own gear to scan images, such as a skateboard that will be translated directly into the game.

This new feature will also include voice recognition, for areas such as game shows where you will be able to shout out the answers and the game will understand what you say.

The device is shown at the end of the trailer, pictures coming soon. I guess the motion sensor controller and the game was nothing but a rumor, but the motion sensor idea is indeed alive!

It is announced to be called Project Natal and will work with every Xbox 360 as well as being sold with Xbox 360s in the future.

Steven Spielberg comes on to talk about how this new technology will revolutionize gaming by allowing anybody to play video games by using your entire being instead of being hindered by a controller. Looks interesting indeed.

Turns out the Sony PS3 also has something in the works: Gizmondo [not as cool though]

TOY STORY 3! I didn’t know they were doing a Toy Story 3! Did you know they were doing a Toy Story 3!? TOY STORY 3 (my head hurts…)

The creators of the beloved “Toy Story” films re-open the toy box and bring moviegoers back to the delightful world of Woody, Buzz and our favorite gang of toy characters in “Toy Story 3.”

Director Lee Unkrich (co-director of “Toy Story 2” and “Finding Nemo”) directs this highly anticipated film, and Michael Arndt, the Academy Award®-winning screenwriter of “Little Miss Sunshine,” brings his unique talents and comedic sensibilities to the proceedings. Hits theaters June 18, 2010 in Disney Digital 3-D.

Concept Soldier for the Year 2030 (USArmy)

Another case of life imitating art, and by art I mean badass sci-fi shooter videogames!

Future Soldier 2030

The “Future Soldier 2030” being planned at the Army’s Soldier Systems Center in Natick, Mass., is the subject of much oohing-and-ahhhing in today’s New York Post. The basis of tomorrow’s fighter is a “soldier as a system,” philosophy that more or less regards soldiers as battlefield assets like tanks or planes.

Some of this “system’s” features include a HUD inside the helmet; voice commands that unlock a weapon or set it to less-than-lethal force, a powered exoskeleton to increase a soldier’s movement endurance and even “neural prosthetics” and “drugs that aid cognitive ability.” The Army allows that those enhancements might be “controversial now, but perhaps ubiquitous in 2030.”

I suppose it’s only a natural evolution, the Army’s designs somewhat trailing the epochal history of combat games; from flight sims to drone aircraft, FPSes to cyborg soldier.

No shit. It actually looks like cosplay gone bad lol.

Is This The Best USB Flash Drive Stick EVER?

•May 31, 2009 • 3 Comments

Transformer's Ravage

The answer is, “YES, it’s not only the best USB stick ever, it’s also probably the single greatest object to have been created since man first came down from the trees.”

For anyone too young/not geeky enough to know who that robo-panther right there is, that’s Ravage out of Transformers, that is. Back in the ’80s he used to turn into a cassette (for some reason that escapes us now), but now that we all live in the future he folds up into a working 2GB USB memory-stick.

This genius piece of plastic wonderment won’t hit the shops until September, and it’ll set you back a steep $40 – although, to be honest, it could cost $250 and I’d still fucking buy one. [via FrontArmy]

Futurama Space Invaders

A game of a cartoon of a game:

If you’ve seen Futurama’s “Anthology of Interest II” episode, specifically its Raiders of the Lost Arcade segment, you’ll remember Fry and friends jumping into a mobile air artillery platform to fight off a swarm of raiding Nintendians in a very Space Invaders-esque scene.

Game designer Shinobi is recreating that scene as an actual PC game right down to Rush’s “Tom Sawyer” soundtrack. He has even added video clips from the episode that pop in during gameplay.

Hacked Public Bicycle Kiosk, Shows Porn Movie

Hacked Public Bicycle Kiosk Shows Porn Movie

This is a computer kiosk used to control public bicycle lending. But as you can see in the image, the touchscreen is not displaying the software used for this task, but a porn movie at full screen.

It happened in the city of Zamora, Spain—where else—this weekend. For more than one hour, the movie played—in the words of one of the witness, Francisco Guarido, a baffled city official—”with unsuspected sharpness” to mixed reactions in a crowd that kept getting bigger and bigger by the minute.

Many people laughed, like the policewoman who came first alerted by the official. In fact, she couldn’t stop her laughter as she alerted the police station via radio. More people and police agents kept congregating, many laughing, some enjoying with eyes glued to the screen, some scandalized but also with eyes glued to the screen, others reprimanding the city official who was there. Two old women shouted at Guarido, blaming him for the indecent show.

After an hour of public moaning, jiggling, and skirting—yes, I love my country. I hate it most of the time, but others I love it—the police agents ended the show by taping two paper sheets to the screen.

Later, the company responsible for the public kiosk turned off the movie. The city official said that the security of the computer system used for this task was “fragile.” He really meant “crap.”
