•December 30, 2008 • Leave a CommentHoraa! About a year ago now, when my internet was faster than the DeLorean DMC-12 Time Machine traveling in a vacuum of free space! I used to surf the web for filmmaking tips, short films, inspirational stories, guidelines, forums and pretty much anything film related you can name. Well one time I came across a video on AtomFilms, where a girl by the name of Ahree Lee began taking digital snapshots of her own face every day for three years. That stuck with me and I just came across it again today.
This time-lapse face motif montage has become common on the internet [“Everyday” by Noah Kalina] and I’ve seen a fair few; but this montage in particular is the best. The wicked sound-engineered ambient musical score helps too:
“Each second of screen time you will see amounts to about a week’s worth of pictures”
Since November 2001, I have been taking a picture of myself every day. Put together in a video the days fly by at roughly a week per second, blending together to make a new image that transforms over time. The resulting portrait creates a tension between continuous film image and individual photos brought to the foreground occasionally by stray cropped edges.
Through its flickering instability, “Me” becomes a meditation on image, identity, and ultimately, mortality. This installment covers three years of a long-term project intended to continue indefinitely.
Sometimes the best ideas are the simplest ones, executed through dedication.

Jizz in my Pants, is the new song from Lonely Island about exactly what you think its about. It had it’s debut on Saturday Night Live.
Lonely Island is Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, and the clip includes cameos from Molly Sims, Jamie-Lynne Sigler and Justin Timberlake. [Samberg previously worked with Timberlake for “Dick in a Box”]

Handmade is a 6 minute short created by Cisma aka Denis Kamioka [who also directed the Black Thin King animation] and was co-written by graffiti artist Herbert Baglione.
And I noticed it stars Lovefoxxx [Luísa Hanaê Matsushita] from electroclash/synthpop band CSS [Cansei de Ser Sexy]
Awesome short! It’s a special type of art that sticks in your head.

Part 1
Part 2
Pretty cool series. My only complaint is the fucking voice dub-over’s. I can read BBC and I want to hear their voices. Kind of a major flaw in the documentary that is solely about Japan; when they don’t allow the [Japanese] speakers voice to be heard.
Still, very informative and entertaining.
GAME: Space Invaders + Newton’s Law = PHYSICS INVADER
•December 22, 2008 • Leave a CommentWhat Happens When You Take Space Invaders And Give Them Realistic Physical Properties? I’ll Tell You What You Get I Will. You Get PHYSICS INVADER!
Created by Yoshio Ishii for Japan’s NekoGames, Physics Invader is a physics-based remake of Taito’s arcade classic, which applies physics, including gravity and mass to the demise of the 8-bit aliens. As your laser cannon pierces each invader, its tiny little pixelated body falls to the ground, and their little carcasses pile up at the bottom of the screen.
But why write up wordy descriptions of the game when you can play it for yourself?
Sir Isaac Newton would be proud.
