Upset by Steven Spielberg’s recent decision to remake OldBoy [+ live-action Ghost In The Shell] and also, catching Twilight Zone: The Movie [1983] late last night – in which Spielberg directed a woeful feel-good symbolic morality short [“Kick the Can”], involving old people in an old home recapturing their youthful spirit thanks to a magical old black man; – the Forbidden Planet sequel, The Thing prequel, The Day The Earth Stood Still remake, Alfred Hitchcock’s surreal thriller The Birds remake, Live-action Akira, Ghostbusters 3, Quarantine [REC] remake] and with the list going on and on; it just makes me want to BITCH.
HOLLYWOOD REMAKES!!!
Why don’t the big wigs with the money see that remakes of masterpiece stories committed to film are the scourge of the creative medium? [given a few exceptions] I think it’s because they really don’t give a damn. It’s all about profit.
So what then of those remake-Directors whose job description is to guide the work and artistic vision of the film?
The only logical explanation one thinking from the pit of anger and summit of knowledge has, is that they’re old. [impaired judgment/lack of fresh ideas/quick $]
A remake of a good film is no less different than an obvious rip-off of Star Wars. Just because they have the right to the name doesn’t make it a good idea.
I just hope it doesn’t catch on as a trend.
We’ve had the War Story, the Cop Drama, the Musical, the Parody, the Black Comedians Dressing Up, the Rob Schnider & Adam Sandler’s, and we’re still in the Superhero phase. I can live with game adaptations, or how about mainstream porn? But when you remake classics, you lose points.

Variety is reporting that DreamWorks is in the process of securing the remake rights to Chan Wook-park’s [JSA (Joint Security Area), Sympathy for Lady Vengence, Sympathy for Mr.Vengence] twisted revenge film Oldboy. A film that, if your reading this, you probably need no introduction to.
I guess Spielberg and Smith have been wanting to work together for some time. But, is this really the dream project? Could Smith and Spielberg ever really embrace the Old Boy backstory or f’ed up ending? Can you imagine how watered down a mainstream Old Boy would have to be?
Let’s wonder how aliens will fit into the plot.
My friend Chris [Hamilton based movie-mogul drunken master], from recollection owns several copies of OldBoy, PAL & NTSC versions and like him, I imagine this news coming like a hammer to the face for OldBoy fans all over the planet.
Steven Spielberg is a visionary genius yes, but this remake news of a classic film [of a classic Manga] isn’t bitter sweet at all. It’s just bitter. Bitter shit, and that’s the worst kind.
I can’t imagine it frankly; One liners from Smith, American product placement, some racial feud I suspect and a political twist. [Sigh]

Beautifully shot, the original Oldboy tells a gripping tale about a Seoul businessman [played by Min-sik Choi, pictured] who gets kidnapped and tossed into a cell for 15 years by unseen captors for no apparent reason. Escaping at last, he follows a trail of clues to avenge his tormentors.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has received her first job offer since failing in her bid to become vice-president of the United States, and it comes with a large cash offer. Florida-based porn director Cezar Capone [a.k.a. Bill Fisher] has offered to pay Palin $2 million [$2,000,000.00] to appear in an adult film production.
Capone, who calls himself “the king of all MILF films,” promises in an open letter on his website that the film would be distributed internationally, shot in high definition, and feature a “beautiful mother recognized by all of America … as the most desirable woman over 40.” [he obviously forgot about Carrie Fisher]

To sweeten the deal, Palin’s husband Todd has been offered a co-starring role in the production, for which Capone would be “prepared to kick in an extra $100,000,” and a new Arctic Cat snowmobile.
Palin hasn’t publicly responded to the offer. And why should she? She’s a committed Christian woman with a family and bla bla bla.

A close friend gave me [and others] a post-Halloween scare the other day when he fell ill and was admitted to hospital for 2 nights.
