Wah-Wahs & All Saints “Pure Shores” [♬] [throwback]

Apparently one in every five men will admit to secretly loving this song… Real statistic.

Came on the car radio and reminded me of my girlchildhood. 90s music and road-trips always work. This won’t interest anyone I’m sure, but The X Factor New Zealand television reality music competition show (originating from the original UK series and based on the Australian The X Factor production format) has English singer-songwriter and All Saints member, Melanie Blatt, as one of the judges. Small world huh.

I was more of a Spice Girls & B*Witched weenie, but this song did strike some chords with me, those cords in particular being that wah-wah guitar dip sound. I will always attribute that riff to Johnny “Guitar” Watson, the godfather of the wah-wah sound, and especially Herbie Hancock’s cover of “Bubbles” (@ 2:33):

This post is a transvestite against good taste. Forgive me lords of funk, but I have to leave this here, if only so it may never be mentioned again for the rest of my adult life:

Oh my… I’m so ashamed right now. I bought the cassette tape and everything.

WarSting — This DIY Hobbit Sword Glows Near Unsecured Wi-Fi Networks

The magical dagger Sting protected Bilbo from evil creatures and glowed blue when there were orcs nearby. But WarSting, Spark IO’s modern take on Sting, provides a more timely warning — It will glow when there are unsecured wireless networks nearby:

That’s right; this homemade replica modified from a toy, instead of glowing blue when it detects Orcs, glows blue when it picks up an open wi-fi network. All you have to do then is thrust and swing at the invisible frequency bands to store the name of the unsecured network to a Spark Cloud account for future use. Just don’t get caught swinging/hacking away at someone else’s network or you may just come face to face with a very real and visibly irate household troll of some sort. I’m not saying don’t do it — I was using my neighbours connection for a good year before moving out; silly Marshal59 named his network after his password — just don’t get stung, newb.

THE LIGHT SHOW

•January 3, 2015 • Leave a Comment

I recently visited the Auckland Art Gallery to see an awesome exhibit; The Light Show. I thought a few installations majorly suffered from an over exposure of room lighting, but other than that, this is one special exhibition I’m glad I didn’t miss. So many brilliant and interesting pieces, I wanted to document every single one but I had read the guidelines of the exhibit beforehand that unfortunately prohibited the use of any recording devices, which makes sense I guess — wouldn’t want to spoil the awe for anyone…

However, my home girl Renée didn’t read the guidelines…or she just didn’t care to listen to me, either way, here is but a glimpse at a few wicked installations currently on display at the Auckland Art Gallery, courtesy of Renée, who’s a ninja on the shutter-button:

I took my dad out for a drive to find a high vantage point. I wasn’t in the city, but at the Auckland Museum with my dad when the new year fireworks went off. It was nice.
