Doesn’t this just make you wanna touch everyone you see during your early morning commute? …No?
Thought provoking juxtaposition about glorification above life itself:
Charity asks Londoners to put their money where their mouths are in controversial ‘Fuck The Poor’ campaign.
Do we really care about those less fortunate? I don’t like that this is part of a marketing scheme, although its saving grace is that it is for a charity organisation. This social experiment would work as a stand-alone commentary on society in its own right. I like it. Hypocrisy on display.

“I spent years laying down tons of tracks,” McFerrin explains, “and I got into a really bad habit of never really finishing anything. So this last year the concept was – let me go back and find all the stuff that really felt right, the stuff that felt like an honest moment of creation for me, and just force myself to finish those tracks.”
Michele Leggott, MC for the Lounge poetry readings, had asked Selina, my lecturer, if she knew of any new student poets who she could recommend reading at the next Lounge event. Guess what — Selina asked me. LOL. After reading one poem about a whiteboard which was genuinely written out of frustration for having to write for five minutes about a whiteboard, Selina has extended the invitation to me to read at this privileged event, which I had assumed was most definitely for students currently in or had graduated from the Postgraduate Master of Creative Writing (MCW) paper. Nothing is official yet, but my name will be put forward for Michele’s consideration.
Not sure if I should be feeling excited or worried about this or what? I accepted her offer with resound encouragement from fellow student, Makyla, and because hey, I’ll never turn down an invitation without a good reason. I don’t have any intentions of impressing anyone there, so I’m not so nervous about performing (atm), and also with five minutes on the mic, I’m pretty sure I can extend my sestina to that amount of time. Something of an experience huh, getting thrown in the deep end of poetry …I’m so screwed.

From a humble, self-released one man project (Andrew Spraggon), Sola Rosa has grown to a high-octane live collective, successfully melding soul, funk, hip hop, Latin and jazz; and they currently would like to borrow your dancing limbs:
“Looking for some really good dancers for our next video. Especially popping and locking pros, b-boys/girls but open to other styles. Anybody?”

“Please email us with your experience and any footage you have of you dancing. Open to styles but especially keen on hip hop / popping and locking. We will be filming in Auckland so please take that in to account. Thanks.”
Tesla Boy’s “Fantasy” is the song I’ve been jamming to this past week, sitting comfortably on the top of my current playlist. I feel the music video could have done so much more, but it’s understandable if they were working under a shoestring budget and time constraints, in which case it compliments the upbeat song well. Definitely evokes an 80’s, ‘boy at heart’ dude infatuated with the unattainable girl next door vibe.
Skype sex invitations are so annoying when you’re engaged in a mission to save the world from an alien invasion. Seriously, pretty girls should do something more productive with their time …I’m totally serious about it… For serials. It’s sort of NSFW so expect boobs:
I read my poem today to a crowd of unknowns and three familiar faces for the launch of Argos Aotearoa — a new publication about politics, people and place. It actually went well. I opened on a funny, morbid quote [“Build a man a fire, and he’ll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he’ll be warm for the rest of his life”] and even heard a few giggle during my reading. It was pretty cool, so thanks Selina Tusitala Marsh. Thanks for the offer to read (I did not volunteer as you told the class Monday morning) and also for giving 😉 me a copy of Argos ($30 retail). And by 😉 I mean she totally racked it off the table while no one was looking. She’s such an epic person.

Here’s a video I found of her sharing a poem followed by her intimidating the bejeezus out of her audience. How many lecturers do you know of who could potentially kick your butt? — See how kickboxing, a Tuvalu dance and poetry move:
That’s my teacher. While I’m on the subject and have your attention; Selina will be interviewing legendary author Alice Walker (The Colour Purple) as the headline at this year’s Auckland Writers Festival:
Walker is an activist and believes that developing compassion is a critical task each one of us must undertake. She joins Dr. Selina Tusitala Marsh in conversation.
