NOOOO!!! My Car Stereo Is Broken!

I can’t cruise without tunes. OK, I can but it isn’t the same. The stereo is a hand-me-down that belonged to my uncle and he said he got it back in 2007, so it had a good run at least. But still. …SHIT!!!

Anime GIFs: PART I

•February 1, 2014 • Leave a Comment

The humble GIF — not quite video and not quite still image — just another simple and effective piece of digital indulgence the internet age has spawned. I like GIFs that are ironic, super hilarious or look mesmerizing, and there are many great moments in animation that are so fleeting that if you blink you’ll miss them. Luckily there are enough anime enthusiasts out there who have captured these subtle cells of colour and motion and converted them into repetitious windows of coolness:

I would like to try make this a regular thang on DITB but I won’t be sorry if I can’t be bothered to name/credit them all. Just ask.

Dramatic Skydiving TKO

•January 30, 2014 • Leave a Comment

Scary. James Lee, 25 was knocked unconscious while plummeting 12,500ft to the ground in a skydiving accident. Thankfully he wasn’t alone and his fellow skydivers were calm and able to deploy his parachute, saving James from becoming a human pancake.

James regained consciousness while under the canopy and landed safely on the ground with no memory of the drama that had unfolded seconds earlier. I suppose the moral of this story is, if skydiving is on your bucket-list make sure it’s last on the list be sure to include an accompanying skydiver to take the jump and fall with you.

Snake’s Ageing Well

Hideo Kojima recently tweeted a side-by-side then and now of METAL GEAR SOLID. Within a short technological development space of 17 years, you’re looking at photorealism at its finest to date:

Snake Then & Now

METAL GEAR’s epic narratives are top-notch too, to mention the obvious. Not sure about Kiefer Sutherland replacing David Hayter though. Two very distinct, very different voices. Kojima-san just wanted 1984 Snake (49 years old) to sound different I guess, or if I was to take an educated guess, I would say that Sutherland’s experience as an actor out performs Hayter’s assumed ability to do live motion capture to Kojima-san’s perfectionist standards. Not a bad thing.
