Is This The Worst Greatest Con Man Ever Televised?

Yes. 34-year-old Thamsanqa Jantjie provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela’s memorial service, except he was gesticulating gibberish, interpreting nothing but nonsense from his own head for hours! I might’ve considered him a mastermind, had he accounted for the cameras and the international notoriety his mug would gain, not to mention his naive underestimation of actual people who actually use and recognize sign language when they see it, in Africa and around the world. This be one silly man.

Of the 15 million South African citizens, one man answered the call…no one understood the conversation (best logline for a film ever). The fact this man would have made money for an honest service is sick. Although, on a hypothetical notion, for souls no longer bound by the Earth — If you believe in some sort of transition after death thing — I imagine could view such an act amongst the well wishes of beloved ones as humorous and an endearing sendoff, telling of the fallible nature of mankind and the uniting quality of consequential empathy. Back to reality however, this was funny but an injustice to those who lack the capacity to interpret sound. This man’s charade was wrong though not I nor anybody else has a contract to condemn him. Jantjie has recently spoken to a newspaper claiming that he was suffering a schizophrenic attack and hearing “voices in his head“, but I remain skeptical along with South Africa’s deaf association. He’s a fraud and just one of many liars in the world who has found himself on television. What do you think?
