Extremely Zany Commercials by Animator Peter Chung

Speaking of the California Institute of the Arts, Korean-born Peter Chung studied animation there and has worked in the U.S. animation industry since 1981. His style is visually distinctive and you may recognize his work from such shows as MTV’s iconic adult animated series Æon Flux, Phantom 2040, Matriculated from The Animatrix anthology, The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury, and Rugrats believe it or not.

I think it’s a bummer we haven’t been graced with anything recent by him, so I thought I’d dig up a few unknown gems to marvel at and add to our repertoire of angst ridden, cyberpunk, dystopian appreciation — Peter Chung’s animated commercials:

Rally’s Checkers (2000): Fuel Gauge / GForce /Johnny Law /
Big Chicken / Screamin’ Chicken Strips

My brain is so hungry for some extreme “High Performance Human Fuel” burgers right now! That has got to be the most gnarly hunger enticement I’ve ever seen. Where did we go wrong society? Here are a few more Peter Chung commercials he directed while under the employment of Acme Filmworks — Levi’s, Nike, Pepsi, Honda, Sony and more:

“Ninjettes” for Sony Bravia / “Cross the Line” for Mattel / “501’s” for Levi’s / “AT&T Business Advantage” for AT&T / “The Coupe Mission” for Honda / “G-Police” for Psygnosis

Ahh, G-Police; manning the throttle of your own high-tech gunship and fighting organized crime syndicates on the streets of planet Jupiter‘s moon, Callisto. First game I ever owned on PlayStation. I’ll do a separate post about that sometime. Here is the pilot episode for Æon Flux, because let’s face it, Rugrats is about a bunch of philosophical babies:

Dear Mr Chung, the world is waiting for you to warp our minds again!
