Escape From City 17 [Part 2]

•September 4, 2011 • Leave a Comment

The second installment to the well-received H a l f – L i f e fan film has finally arrived! And it has wonderful production value, made on a budget of only $250! WHAT!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lyUNs7eNhs

A story about the connection that grows between two people during the battle for city 17. Made in the same gritty guerrilla style as the original, it was made on a $250 budget, previously owned/donated software, time, and an HVX200 camera.

Escape From City 17 Part One was created as a long form spec commercial for Ian and David’s commercial demo reel. They completed the second short in their spare time and want to thank everyone that enjoyed the first.

“In The Fall” by Steve Cutts [animation]

‘In The Fall’ caught me off guard, and I love that. Everyone should be made to watch this. The concept itself is nothing new or innovative, sure, but the bittersweet introspection this animation induces in the viewer makes it special. It has a very deep meaning, delivered in a very creative way. Don’t let this happen to you:

A short hand-drawn animation created in Adobe Flash and After Effects about one mans reflection on his life. Music by Guided by Voices. [stevecutts.com]

HI READER! I haven’t posted much about my own personal escapades in a while, so here are a few pictures from a recent trip me and my fam took to the south island of New Zealand.

I felt refreshed escaping the demands of an insomniac city. There is so much to discover and places to explore. I had a great time and I also had some wonderful things to frame and capture with my dusty old camera. Just to prove I’m still alive and kicking, here are a few POV snaps of my life:

…I MISS IT SO! Each location has its own name and story, but I’ll leave that up to you to discover when you get yer butt down here! Let’s plan a trip together soon yo!

Inspired by our love of robots, double g studios won a competitive pitch to direct and animate 20 energetic idents for Channel 4’s T4.

The personality of each robot was enhanced through costume design, choreography and their relationship with the new 3d logos. Here’s a mash up from the 20. ps this just won a BDA Europe Gold.

FOTONICA

•August 17, 2011 • 1 Comment

Apparently this is a video game, but I’m just happy being mesmerized by its minimalistic wireframe style and kinetic changing visuals. Very cool. I’m hooked by this video alone, but if it’s playable, I’d give it a go:

Check out the online demo version of Fotonica on Kongregate now!

A first person game about jumping, sense of speed and discovery. The key is timing, the goal is exploring and traveling flawlessly through the environment

The setting is an abstract – mainly duotone – outlined world, with a look referring to the geometrical abstractions from the 50s a the 3D low-poly gaming era.

Return of the mack daddies of 80s toy badassness! I lost mine, but I still remember how awesome these were to play with. They’re making a comeback baby, but nothing will be able to defeat the originals:

Not a Fan of ‘Balck Eyed Peas’ but New Zealand Dance Crew ‘ReQuest’ Makes Listening to Them Tolerable

Me and my brother Kaig are both into dance; I showed him some robot-puzzling skills and he showed me ReQuest — the all female crew from New Zealand who have claim to being World Title Hip Hop Champions!

I remember reading, I think it was Timeout, that entertainment guide that comes with the newspaper, and there was an article featuring Parris Goebel sporting an awesome hairstyle, talking about her passion, mad skills and her crew. It’s great to see her and ReQuest on the world stage:

Hip hop dance crew ReQuest – Malaena Eagle, Shalom Leilua, Bonnie Talamaivao, Reimy Jones, Parris Goebel, Courtney Hale, Bianca Ikinofo and Samantha Cahill.

Way to represent New Zealand ladies, Poly-Swag style!

Give her a scholarship!

“Hi guys, I’m using an instrumental backing, and as usual, I did the violin part by ear. Enjoy :)”

Not convinced of her mighty morphin skills huh?

That brought back memories. Way to go Lara, you’ve made me nostalgic over two time periods!
