A Puppet Show On The Go

•July 4, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Traffic congestion + a white Mazda truck + a few puppets and an FM transmitter =

Mobile Puppet Theater: US 210 Freeway Pasadena, California

Drivers stuck behind this Mazda will be treated to puppet shows that explore themes such as chaos, control, fame, friendship, snobbery, artistic integrity and love.

A radio frequency will also be on display, in which the driver can tune into and listen to the soundtrack of the puppet show on their radios.

Starting roughly at 5 p.m. on designated days, lucky commuters will see the back of the pickup’s shell top swing open to reveal an energetic hand puppet dressed like a heavy metal musician.

If they tune their radios to the frequency written on a cardboard sign on the tailgate, they’ll hear crashing guitar chords and a gravelly announcer’s voice say, “Welcome to ‘Superclogger’!”

What follows are four vignettes: An aging country singer laments the price of success; a naive young boy confronts upper class pretensions in a surreal conversation with a talking shrub; two construction workers shed their tough guy image with a karaoke version of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now”; and an isolated writer sets aside his novel for a lucrative screenplay and love.

The 100 Greatest (slash Obscene) Movie Insults of All Time [movie montage]

•July 4, 2010 • Leave a Comment

CONTENT WARNING: Foul language galore! I found this to be more a mass of obscene abuse taken out of context than a montage of clever comebacks. Just swear words really, delivered by some admired actors and actresses.

And FYI, “go f**k yourself” isn’t an insult, it’s a (cliché) suggestion – But I guess it F***ing belongs here on DarkInTheBoy:

Harry Hanrahan’s video is packed with 100 vicious movie insults.

I got bored listening to most of those; so here’s a happy video to contrast:

…The spiders on the wall?! …The cobwebs in the hall?!

Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’ Covered by Pomplamoose [music video]

•July 3, 2010 • 1 Comment

At first I didn’t like this cover by Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn, solely because, it isn’t really ‘Beat It’ without that phat guitar riff. But this version has definitely grown on me:

Infinity times better than *shivers* Fall Out Boy’s version.

Electric Lyrics [hacked road signs]

Here’s a digital construction sign on the southbound side of I-39 near Stevens Point, Wisconsin, that was hacked to display Electric Six lyrics:

That six degrees of separational paranoia gift thingy I was telling you about earlier led me to this:

Haha I never said it would make sense

Electronic musicians Orbital wrapped up their performance at Glastonbury 2010 with this awesome cover of the Doctor Who theme, AND the DJ is none other than Matt Smith who played the 11th Doctor:

I am jealous… DID YOU SEE THOSE LASERS?

Unitard Universe [new site]

•July 1, 2010 • 2 Comments

This is a website devoted to the history of ‘Unitards’ from science fiction fantasy television and films to live concerts and fashion walks: Uninhibited Uniform at Unitard Universe celebrates all things uni!

I wrote that little write-up before I actually visited the site – give me a minute… (2 hours later) I feel like someone should award me with a diploma in Unitardosophy.

There’s more there than what I was expecting for sure, and all I was expecting was Lady Gaga, Cher, Elvis, lots of Freddie Murcury, some Spice Girls and Cameltoe galore:

(is that too many? plenty more at the site) Half celebrity smut conceived for serial masturbators around the globe, and half people just looking good and having fun. You decide by adding a KISS beside each picture, or not. [Unitard Universe]

TRUE BLOOD Has Finally Returned

•June 30, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Season 3 has only just begun in New Zealand… It’s on now in fact – BYYYEEEE

Also; Kiwi born actor Grant Bowler from Outrageous Fortune fame, has a role in this season of True Blood as Cooter, head of a werewolf pack:

Bowler, who plays the werewolf Cooter, explained that he enjoys the freedom he has on the show.

“The amazing thing about True Blood is how far they’re prepared to go,” he told TV Guide. “I’ve never heard one of the directors, or [creator] Alan [Ball], or any of the writers once say, ‘Uh, that’s going too far. Can you pull back?'”

Hip-Hop Country-Line-Dancing [WTF]

Apparently this is the newest trend in country-line-dancing… It’s gonna be bigger than ZUMBAAA (points finger toward screen) trust me 😛

That was hella crap! But get Daisy Fuentes to promote this thing and it might catchon.

E3 2010 Trailers …Video Games in other words

•June 30, 2010 • Leave a Comment

E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) is over, but I’d like to share a few standout game trailers that have me interested in playing… And no, I don’t necessarily mean buying, I mean inviting myself over to a friend’s house and pitching in to go rent a console haha …Where are my friends at!

Ahem; I love games, ever since early childhood they’ve been a part of my life, more so than film (what a geek) and every year we gamers get an earful of some crazy concepts and are treated to a visual feast of splenderific, stylized in-game graphics and fast-paced imaginative action yet to be released. Oh-yeah I’m talking games baby!

To name a few – You get to fly spacecraft in the upcoming Halo: Reach and Slice absolutely anything with you samurai sword in the new Metal Gear Solid: Rising, the first game in the series that wont be directed/developed by the legendary Hideo Kojima.

There’s a new chapter in the Silent Hill series. PORTAL 2 is gonna be fun on a bun. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is going to be funking amazing! A game that looks to encompass all that is awesome in things like Blade Runner, Ghost In The Shell and Metal Gear Solid (which is everything) and my favourite news so far; an excellent sci-fi shooter by the creators of Bioshock that is actually set in 1950s suburbia called XCOM (official reboot of 1993 game)

Holy-Moly I better start saving…

The most intriguing thing about XCOM is how it looks to implement 2K’s philosophy of story-based shooters.

The contrast between 1950s Americana and the chilling alien entities that you have to fight should make for nice dramatic friction. You can see BioShock‘s stylistic DNA in XCOM but there’s more going on than just retro-design cues. XCOM looks promising.

I love the music in this trailer.

The return of Chell and GlaDOS brings with it a whole new level of awesome. Your new AI companion Wheatley not only delivers LOL-worthy lines but will also help you solve all-new, all-fiendish puzzles.

Starkiller’s new dual-wielded lightsabers are only the tip of the iceberg of the series’ combat evolution.

Story-wise, the plot delves into more of Starkiller’s past and brings Vader front and center to the intrigue.

The previous Tron film is a touchstone for a whole generation of gamers and the buzz on the new Tron Legacy movie that’s coming out this holiday season is high. Thankfully, the Evolution game looks like a clever, visually appealing bridge between the two movies.

AND of course there are loads more, like Batman: Arkham Asylum 2, a new Mortal Kombat game, Crysis 2, Assassins Creed 3… I think I’m going to ‘try’ and tone down my enthusiasm toward such geeky pursuits. Could help with the ‘finding a fg’ thing huh 😉
