The first episode of “Glee” just aired here in New Zealand, and I think I liked it.
•November 6, 2009 • Leave a CommentI just finished watching “Purple Rain” for the first time …WOW
•November 6, 2009 • Leave a CommentPretty much everyone involved in this film & album has gone onto great things. Prince is a powerhouse in the music industry and at the time was at his creative peak.
This film centers around Prince and his story but is stretched out into an 80’s funk/pop filled musical drama that captures the music revolution that was taking place at the time. Not a film for everyone, but I enjoyed it immensely. I think I liked it because it was a time when it was safe to be strange, and music was exciting — Prince let it be:
Purple Rain is a 1984 musical film directed by Albert Magnoli and written by Magnoli and William Blinn. Prince stars in this movie, which was developed to showcase his particular talents. The film earned US$68.4 million (2009 dollars US$140,017,340) at the box office and became an instant cult classic.
“The Kid” (Prince) is an aspiring and talented, but troubled Minneapolis musician with a difficult home life. He meets a singer named Apollonia (Apollonia Kotero), and they become involved in an untidy romance.
Prince is trying not to repeat the pattern of his abusive alcoholic father; played by Clarence Williams III (famous at the time for his role as Lincoln Hayes on The Mod Squad); and keep his band, The Revolution, and his relationship with Apollonia, together. His main antagonist is fellow musician Morris Day and his group The Time.
The music and talent behind it all make this film truly amazing. Go get it! It is packed with loads of great special features such as 80s interviews and rare Prince music videos.

Right after a Guy Fawkes spending spree as well. HA! Practically burning money indeed.
Introducing… Sir Christopher Lee
•November 3, 2009 • Leave a CommentThe Prince Of Darkness is finally knighted. Although I was under the assumption he always had knighthood:
On October 30th, actor Christopher Lee was knighted by Prince Charles on behalf of the Queen for his services to drama and charity. It couldn’t happen to a more awesome actor.
Lee’s 60+ film and theater career covers every genre, and by all accounts he is incredibly nice, humble, and very likely the pretentious actor of his immense stature that ever was. This has been long overdue. Congratulation, Sir Christopher! [via The British Monarchy]
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time [movie trailer]
•November 3, 2009 • Leave a CommentHere’s the brand spanking new HD trailer for the upcoming Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. It definitely looks very high budget Disney / Bruckheimer spectacular, something that I’m sure will rock plenty of theater seats and launch a thousand toy lines:
A rogue prince (JAKE GYLLENHAAL) reluctantly joins forces with a mysterious princess (GEMMA ARTERTON) and together, they race against dark forces to safeguard an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Time—a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.
From the team that brought the “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy to the big screen, Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films present PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME, an epic action-adventure set in the mystical lands of Persia.
An adventurous prince teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world…
I can’t say that doesn’t sound promising.
N’fa Forster-Jones “Cause An Effect” – Directed by Heath Ledger [music video]
•November 1, 2009 • Leave a CommentNice. A music video has been released that was directed by the late and great Heath Ledger, shortly before he died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs at the age of 28, 22 Jan 2008.
Apparently Ledger filmed the entire project in his garage in Sydney, Australia, with a single camera, he used dramatic make-up, bold colours and red lighting. Very cool.
Rapper N’fa Forster-Jones posted the video for his song “Cause An Effect” on his YouTube and MySpace pages last Thursday.
“I, everyday, count my blessing every day for the fact that I got to have him direct this piece of art,” Forster-Jones says in a YouTube video explaining the experience.
The rapper and “The Dark Knight” star were childhood friends growing up in Perth, Australia.

N’fa discussing the making of the Cause An Effect video. Working with Heath, and the showing of Heaths works in Rome 2009.
Awesome. Here’s another video directed by Heath Ledger very few might know; “King Rat” performed by Modest Mouse.
“It was incomplete when he died, and the rest of the team finished it off. Damn good song/video.” – Cheers Dom for the knowledge.
