“Slapdash Supercars” by Max Siedentopf — This Guy Is out at Night Pimping Strangers’ Cars with Cardboard

•November 17, 2015 • Leave a Comment

There is a man in Amsterdam who wanders the streets during the silent hours of the night carrying pieces of cardboard and masking tape, so he can custom shape and stick them to random people’s cars to make them look less ordinary and more like supercharged pimp-mobiles, unbeknownst to the sleeping owners:

“Individuality, self-expression, and status are more important than ever these days. But for some reason you see that things as ordinary as cars are getting personalized less and less, while it could be a strange but great form of self-expression. I thought I’d do people a favor by giving them a custom-made supercar.” ~ Max Siedentopf

Right, and I’m sure they are grateful for it. For more work from this cardboard vigilante, visit: http://maxsiedentopf.com/

The 1937 Azerbaijani novel Ali and Ninotells the story of a Muslim man and a Christian woman in the city of Baku who fall in love. Their cultures will not tolerate such a relationship and they are torn asunder. This enormous sculpture in Batumi, Georgia by Tamara Kvesitadze tells their story. Every evening at 7 o’clock, the two lovers approach, kiss, then pass right through each other:

tekken

Actor and stuntman Eric Jacobus mimics the Taekwondo-inspired kick attacks of Tekken fighter Hwoarang. His training dummy is no Mokujin, but it does the trick. And when Katsuhiro Harada, Tekken producer and director from Namco Bandai Entertainment tweets about it, you know it must be good:

This guy sure loves and is good at kicking; really good:

STAR TREK Problems by Chris Piers [comics]

Excuse me a moment while I laugh my ass off! For fans of the show, these are neat, and you can view them all @ http://www.therobotspajamas.com/tag/star-trek-problems/

Odo would vote Trump. One thing I love about the Star Trek Problems is the ability to comment on current issues through Star Trek to illustrate how ridiculous they are.

STP05

Worf is stumped by his loses in poker in this week’s Star Trek problems. You know, I never thought about how difficult poker would be against that group.

STP29 Rerouting

Star Trek: The Next Generation sure loved techno-babble. Techno-babble is the part of the show where the characters solve a problem by spewing jargon about doing this or that that sounds sort of plausible, but still makes no sense to the average person.

stp73 Amazing Futuristic Technology

If Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home visited 2015, it would certainly baffle our intrepid crew.

STP18 To Eventually Go…

That’s the great thing about alternate universes, you can hit all the familiar beats that resonate without having to create that much that is new! If you can just crib from an old TV series and add explosions, bam, you have a movie!

STP17

Logic isn’t always the most entertaining course of action.

Lol, that Riker Maneuver.

After taking strangers on a zombie adventure, British film company Realm Pictures return with another chat-based horror game, only this time set in space, with better production value and more neat in-camera gags than you can shake a CYXORK 7 at.

Their company is raising funds for a longer adventure where all donors will participate in production and some will even get a chance to playthrough the adventure. Here is a behind-the-scenes look at how “Level 2” was created, followed by what comes next:

‘First & Final Frames’ of Films Supercut — Part II

“With the first video, I was really focused on the idea that the two shots had to immediately mean something. With Part II, I sort of wanted to raise a few questions with the juxtaposition of the two images. Some of the first and final shots may not scream “significance” right away, but when looking at them side-by-side, they force us to think and come up with new, original ideas.” ~ Maryland filmmaker Jacob T. Book vs. Trump — Springfield Woman Goes Viral After Attending Trump’s Speech

•November 12, 2015 • Leave a Comment

trump
Johari Osayi Idusuyi was told the seats behind the podium were reserved for VIP only, but a few minutes later she and her friends (Gabby Chavez, Montel Morgan, DeWayne Williams) were invited to sit there right in the middle, to make it look as if Donald Trump had black supporters, to strategically help boost his image and appeal. So what happened? Johari became uninterested and read Claudia Rankine’s Citizen instead:

November 11th, 2015 — Johari Osayi Idusuyi’s reaction to Donald Trump’s speech in Springfield has landed her in the spotlight, but she showed up to the event on Monday for a low key reason.

“I’m not genuinely interested in him as a person, but as a presidential candidate, if you have the opportunity [so observe], why not?” asked Idusuyi. “It wasn’t conniving, we didn’t sneak in there. He asked us, probably for obvious reasons, but we went, we took the opportunity, and we sat and he told us to sit in the middle and we did,” said Idusuyi.

“I came here, yes, to observe a man that I already had low expectations for, but I thought maybe he could change my mind. Maybe it was just a media thing and I’m judging too fast based on what the media says and I was wrong, I wasn’t. He was exactly what I expected him to be and his supporters are exactly what I expected them to be.”

Citizen is an award-winning work by Claudia Rankine

I got tapped on the shoulder. I think it was a couple. The man, he was mad but not as mad as his maybe-spouse. He had a more calm demeanor, just like, if you don’t want to be here, leave. They both said it but hers was more from a place of genuine disgust and anger. I feel like he was a mouthpiece for her. And he probably was kind of mad, but I don’t think he would have tapped me on the shoulder if it wasn’t for the woman. The woman kept saying, “If you don’t wanna be here then leave. You didn’t even stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.” I said, “I do want to be here, that’s why I’m here. You don’t know who I am. I’m reading my book because I’m uninterested. Did you not just see what happened? This person disrespects women, minorities, everybody and you’re still supporting him. He’s not saying anything of substance.” If I met this couple at an event or a dinner party, I would think they were nice people. They probably are nice people. But I don’t think they have any right to tell me what to do. The lady, actually, she mumbled something. I didn’t hear but my friend told me the next day that she said, “I’m so glad you’re not my daughter,” or something along those lines. And I was thinking, “I’m glad I’m not your daughter either!” ~ Johari Osayi Idusuyi

Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” Performed With a Traditional Japanese Bamboo Flute and Koto [♬]

Michael Jackson and producer Quincy Jones created some of the most timeless and iconic music of any generation, so it is understandable if someone was to guffaw at the idea of an acoustic cover version with traditional Japanese instruments sounding as good, but it does. This is one of the best cover tracks I have ever heard.

Professional shakuhachi (bamboo flute) player Yoshimi Tsujimoto is accompanied by two talented koto players, Erina Ito and Yuko Watanabe on the 17-string koto, for a truly unique rendition of Michael Jackson’s 1987 classic Smooth Criminal, with a traditional Japanese flair:

This isn’t Yoshimi’s first time performing with Erina—in fact, they actually play together as a pair in a group called 523 ~Koibumi~, which they formed during their university days.

For comparison, here is the original music video for Smooth Criminal (1987):
