Celebrities Read Mean Tweets #6

•February 7, 2014 • Leave a Comment

Some people are cruel and write very harsh things to celebrities on Twitter. What you don’t see when you send a nasty tweet is that it can cause pain. So to raise awareness, and hopefully make people think twice before they post something awful, we’ve once again assembled a group of famous faces to remind everyone that words hurt.

Great Scene from “ROCKY III”

Was house sitting for Tim today, so while I was on the couch servicing a saxophone I switched on the television, naturally. First time I saw the ROCKY films was years ago with my dad during several daytime screenings, but I forgot why I thought highly of them. People love a good comeback story. Awesome montages work too. The third installment has one scene in particular that sets it aside from the others and it’s not carried on the shoulders of Rocky, but his wife Adrian Pennino, played by Talia Shire. She gives an excellent performance getting through to Rocky, whose mental anguish over his trainer’s death has effected his will to fight. Nothing like a woman’s strength:

And then follows the awesome montage:

Mmm, thighs. I don’t understand why the world doesn’t unanimously love Sylvester Stallone, he’s awesome! The man not only starred as some of the most iconic characters ever portrayed on-screen, he also wrote, produced and directed them all. His talents are completely underrated in my opinion. Good scene though right?

Post-doctoral, Reece Roberts of the School of Psychology at the University of Auckland, is looking for participants for a fMRI study investigating memory and imagination. Dude let me crash at his and Sox’s place on several occasions back in 2008, and more recently, Reece tied the knot with said significant other last September, so I can assure you that your brain will be in safe handling conditions.

“If you are interested, please email me [Reece] at r.roberts@auckland.ac.nz and I will send you some more details about the study.”

Are You a Child of the 90s (or 80s) [adverts]

“You grew up. So did we. Reconnect with the new Internet Explorer.”

Y-e-a-h that’s not gonna happen. Nice advert though; I miss caps and floppy disks. I don’t know why advertisers do these nostalgic, life affirming monologue commercials and then drop the product placement at the end thinking this style of marketing works on people (assuming people are like me). It’s a put off is what it is. Appraising my memories to make a profit, tisk tisk. I mean sometimes it works, but they ought to know that Internet Explorer has never been in the same league as Hungry Hungry Hippos. If anything, when I was on the net in the 90s I was using Napster and most likely looking at girls on Hot or Not when no one was home — Hey now there’s your target demographic, dial-up porn surfers.

This is how you do it, take notes:

NOOOO!!! My Car Stereo Is Broken!

I can’t cruise without tunes. OK, I can but it isn’t the same. The stereo is a hand-me-down that belonged to my uncle and he said he got it back in 2007, so it had a good run at least. But still. …SHIT!!!

Anime GIFs: PART I

•February 1, 2014 • Leave a Comment

The humble GIF — not quite video and not quite still image — just another simple and effective piece of digital indulgence the internet age has spawned. I like GIFs that are ironic, super hilarious or look mesmerizing, and there are many great moments in animation that are so fleeting that if you blink you’ll miss them. Luckily there are enough anime enthusiasts out there who have captured these subtle cells of colour and motion and converted them into repetitious windows of coolness:

I would like to try make this a regular thang on DITB but I won’t be sorry if I can’t be bothered to name/credit them all. Just ask.

Dramatic Skydiving TKO

•January 30, 2014 • Leave a Comment

Scary. James Lee, 25 was knocked unconscious while plummeting 12,500ft to the ground in a skydiving accident. Thankfully he wasn’t alone and his fellow skydivers were calm and able to deploy his parachute, saving James from becoming a human pancake.

James regained consciousness while under the canopy and landed safely on the ground with no memory of the drama that had unfolded seconds earlier. I suppose the moral of this story is, if skydiving is on your bucket-list make sure it’s last on the list be sure to include an accompanying skydiver to take the jump and fall with you.
