Snake’s Ageing Well

Hideo Kojima recently tweeted a side-by-side then and now of METAL GEAR SOLID. Within a short technological development space of 17 years, you’re looking at photorealism at its finest to date:

Snake Then & Now

METAL GEAR’s epic narratives are top-notch too, to mention the obvious. Not sure about Kiefer Sutherland replacing David Hayter though. Two very distinct, very different voices. Kojima-san just wanted 1984 Snake (49 years old) to sound different I guess, or if I was to take an educated guess, I would say that Sutherland’s experience as an actor out performs Hayter’s assumed ability to do live motion capture to Kojima-san’s perfectionist standards. Not a bad thing.

Maginoo at Binibining Filipino New Zealand Pageant 2014 — Vote For Shekinah Delos Santos

•January 27, 2014 • Leave a Comment

Made a friend in my Freedom, Rights and Justice course last year and she sent me this invitation today. Not a fan of the word Pageant, but essentially, of the 14 contestants, organizers are looking for a poster-child worthy of upholding good values and encouraging involvement in Community Service in New Zealand and the Philippines.

Maginoo at Binibining Filipino New Zealand Pageant 2014 - Copy

19 year-old Shekinah Delos Santos is cool (she befriended me for cripes sake) and she already has 1,727 likes/votes to her name. Keep your votes coming in people, although I have to say, I think Shekinah, you’d have way more if your profile mentioned how much of a hardcore League of Legends gamer geek you are 😛

Silhouette Chandeliers, a Kinetic Sculpture by Swiss artist Markus Raetz

•January 23, 2014 • Leave a Comment

I don’t believe we have much control over our imaginations to not illude us, sometimes, and Markus Raetz has exploited that phenomenon in his latest work of perception and movement, creating the illusion of a ghostly rotating head:

The spinning chandeliers are made up of a series of silhouettes cut from metal panels.

What City Should You Actually Live In? According to Buzzfeed

•January 21, 2014 • Leave a Comment

…Cape Town!!! Pfftt, now I understood that the algorithm needed to actually give me a close to definite answer was impossible for Buzzfeed to possibly accommodate on a single webpage of this-or-that questioning, but this confirms it. I have nothing against the city, I’m just razzed I expected this test to actually work and give me some super exotic destination so I could feel good about the answers of limited choices I gave. Of all the cities in the world, why Cape Town exactly, because I like my cappuccino with extra foam and “Lights” by Ellie Goulding? Silly Ashley Perez. Silly Buzzfeed. Silly me for doing this silly thing — your turn:

…Like, actually…

What’s Dennis Rodman Up To G?

•January 18, 2014 • Leave a Comment

One thing came to my mind when I saw this story covered on the news — DOUBLE TEAM.

North Korea Rodman

Interesting, but not much of a story. Rodman traveled to North Korea with some ex-NBA players for an exhibition basketball game and to wish the supreme leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kim Jong-un, a happy birthday. His foray into international diplomacy has caused some controversy over in the States, but I’m sure there are some who believe, as I do, that Rodman’s gonna go all tactical espionage up in there soon enough, Snake Plissken style, with help of course:

In DOUBLE TEAM, an international spy (Jean-Claude Van Damme) teams with a flamboyant weapons dealer (Rodman) to escape from a penal colony and save his family.

Otherwise, his visit was pretty dumb, especially considering that as of last year (April 2013) North Korea detained US missionary Kenneth Bae to serve a 15 year prison sentence on charges of planning to overthrow the North Korean government. Are they serious!? Fuck off. Even if Rodman does openly define his relationship with Kim Jong-un as some kind of special, monitored, long-distance, offshore friendship, his visit was useless. North Korea’s unnecessary secrecy is a source of much global suspicion and animosity. Is there a need for such a high level of quarantine and sanctions against his/the country’s own people? I don’t think so. What’s the justification? Entertaining a misguided leader with basketball games is not such a cool news story I’m afraid. Sorry for wasting everyone’s time…I know I know, the world needs more Van Damme.

NEWS BLOOPERS 2013

Lol. Seems like our regular broadcasting standards here in New Zealand — if it isn’t news, make it news. Check out this 3News story about Bruno, a seemingly innocent bull mastiff that goes on a “tyre” eating binge. If the description itself isn’t riveting enough for you, just wait until you see the animated dramatization:

You stay classy New Zealand.
