China’s New Year, Lantern Festival, and an Unfortunate Ending

•March 5, 2009 • 2 Comments

BEAUTIFUL!

Marking the end of the Chinese New Year, the Lantern Festival takes place on the 15th day of the year – during the first full moon. People across Mainland China and Taiwan celebrate the festival in many colorful ways, from fiery folk traditions to firework displays and laser shows.

Unfortunately, this year’s festival ended on a somewhat sour note as an unauthorized fireworks show set an unoccupied skyscraper on fire in downtown Beijing, and one firefighter “Zhang Jianyong” lost his life fighting the blaze. Collected here are photos of the festival, and a handful from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel fire in Beijing.

OCTO-UPDATE: Nadya “Octomom” Suleman Says No To Vivid

•March 2, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Any dreams/nightmares of seeing Nadya Suleman getting her freak on have been shattered, as the OctoMILF has turned-down Vivid’s publicity stunt generous offer:

Nadya Suleman

She jokingly appeared to be wiling to negotiate, saying:

“Maybe in a year when the baby fat goes away. Of course, if I have more kids I may have to ask for $2 million.”

When Suleman stopped joking, though, she rejected the offer.

“Seriously, though, my mum didn’t bring me up like that,”

Suleman is quoted as saying.

“Besides, what will my 14 kids think when they grow up?”

You have chosen… wisely!
But seriously 8; I’m sorry 14 kids?! And no Father figure?! Lady… How wise was that?

I was just surfing the electric waves when I came across a story about Stephen Chow’s Green Hornet movie. Well Mr Chow has 100% dropped out, which was about the only reason I would go see a Green Hornet movie in the first place. Seth Rogen might make something of the role but I’m still kind of dubious.

Anyway, Director Michel Gondry has been chosen to take over. I wasn’t a fan of Be Kind Rewind that much, but the man has talent. Example:

Are Games Preparing Kids for the Apocalypse? — Good Question

•February 28, 2009 • Leave a Comment

This is quite possibly the coolest, most important, fake news question I have come across all year — Are Games Preparing Kids for the Apocalypse? — My fake answer is yes. Hell freaking yes.

While the reporters couldn’t come to a consensus on the necessary extent of preparation, they agreed that the games are in fact addressing our basic future needs [such as collecting morning dew in human skulls, and how to find a med kit to heal zombie bites]. The video is a must-view for any parents concerned about the effects of violence on their children, and whether or not that violence will sufficiently and accurately train them for the inevitable End of Days. ~ The Onion

Octopussy: Vivid Offers ‘Octomom’ $1M Porn Contract

•February 28, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Octopussy huh, has a nice ring to it. But how about Debitwhore Millionaire? That’s right I said it, now pay me!

Just when you thought this ‘Octomom’ thing couldn’t get any more f**ked up, this happens: Vivid Entertainment, one of the largest porn distributors in the world, has now offered Nadya Suleman, aka ‘Octomom’, $1 million to star in an adult movie.

The offer comes after Suleman gave birth to octuplets following in vitro fertilization. But with six other children already straining her bank account, the family now faces losing their home.

To add incentive to their deal, Vivid has also included one year of health insurance to Suleman and her family if she agrees to sign on as a Vivid contract girl.

“There is a tremendous amount of interest in Nadya and we can help her capitalize on that interest and put some real cash in her bank account,” said Hirsch. As with our Vivid Girls, she would have her choice of partners, including ‘Octodad.'”

[REC] 2

Have you seen [REC] yet? Dude… I wish I had seen it when it premiered here at our July FilmFestival’08. Go rent this movie out, and stay away from its American equivalent “Quarentine” until you do.

Anyway, Spanish creators Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza have been hard at work on a sequel for some time and apparently the first teaser for [REC]2 will be shown before Spanish screenings of Slumdog Millionaire.

The film apparently starts a few hours after the end of the first film but that’s all that is known about the film’s storyline.

Escape From City 17 [Part One]

•February 18, 2009 • Leave a Comment

H a l f – L i f e – You know that awesome First Person Shooter that revolutionised a genre as well a devoted league of followers. Well its inspiration certainly hasn’t faded away, as this kick-ass fan film will prove:

Directed by The Purchase Brothers

The Escape From City 17 short film series is an adaptation based on the Half Life computer game saga by Valve Corporation. Originally envisioned as a project to test out numerous post production techniques, as well as a spec commercial, it ballooned into a multi part series. Filmed guerilla style with no money, no time, no crew, no script, the first two episodes were made from beginning to end on a budget of $500.

Everything about this screams of awesomeness. Can’t wait for the 2nd instalment.
