Ok, so, I’m a guy and this word that I’m about to use really doesn’t mean a thing to me, but for some reason; the word “cute” describes this type of crap really well.

JENGA with the JENGA PISTOL

Shootout

“The game of Jenga was possibly designed to be a more contemplative and strategic game. But sliding those blocks out carefully without knocking over the stack is just entirely too fiddly a task to perform. I figured it would be much more fun to just be able to shoot the blocks out with some sort of pistol.”

Sir, you may be right! Either way, I’ll just let the video do the explaining for y’all:

THE SUPER UFO [F]

I like wind-up toys and flashing lights, period. So I was naturally drawn to this cheap plastic thing in particular while wandering through a Dollar Shop up north:

Super UFO

But look closer and you’ll find that the starship USS Enterprise endorses the SuperUFO:

Is that the Galaxy class NCC-1701-D? I think it is

Casting: Live Action Star Wars TV Show

•March 11, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Looks like the long-promised live-action Star Wars TV show is finally getting made. At the Knowing junket, actress Rose Byrne [who was actually in Episode II as one of Padme’s handmaidens] revealed that not only is Lucas casting for his new series, set between episodes III and IV, but some of her friends are auditioning.

The TV show was rumored to follow some of the side characters as they build up the Rebel Alliance, but there are no Jedi in the cast. Which is odd, but hey, Lucas hasn’t been wrong yet… Right… Right?

Some say we have all been bashed with over-saturated Jedi lately. This could be the welcomed Star Wars revitalisation we’ve [I’ve] been waiting for. A la Knights of the Old Republic?

The Queen Street Sing Sing [F]

•March 9, 2009 • Leave a Comment

An extraordinary time spent with friends and family. Nothing but good vibes and happy conversation. No one more happy than my mother, reunited with her uncle, George Telek, lead vocolist of the performance group playing that night, and their second time meeting in New Zealand since WOMAD 1998. This was a pre-concert get-together at Coyle Park, Point Chevalier:

Catherine Piana Uramete & George Telek

The Queen Street Sing Sing is the biggest musical party of Auckland Festival 2009’s opening weekend. Sing Sing is a series of concerts that started in the mid-90s, bringing together accomplished singers musicians and dancers from throughout Oceania (Papa New Guinea, West Papua, Torres Strait Island, Australia, NZ)

“Sing Sing is a unique state of the art concert performance, presenting traditional, contemporary, choral and stringband music with accompanying visuals and aural soundscapes to capture a sense of place, to take the audience on a journey through the landscape and texture of both urban and grass roots village life.”
~ David Bridie

I knew the concert was going to be great, but it exceeded my expectations. The music was loud, the street was packed with many people from diverse walks of life, and the performance throughout all the songs incorporated different songstyles from different cultures; Maori to Aboriginal to Papua New Guinea.

I found myself looking over the crowd often to see what sort of impact the music was having. Intrigue is the word I would use to describe what I saw, and not once did it seem like the audience was dissipating.

There were a group of young Punjabi guys jumping up & down in front of me; two women jiggling to the drum of their own beat, and some crazy fella at the front with his hands in the air. He must have been slightly out-of-it because before the band even came on stage he was dancing to white noise. Crazy cracker.

After the event and backstage, everyone was pleased to watch a group of young Japanese students who obviously enjoyed the concert, singing/chirping a song to the band through the fence barrier. That was cool. The Maori performers and crew did the haka for the guys aswell. Soon after I had to dropoff my little brother because it was getting late.

Back in the city and driving around aimlessly for a parking space, we eventually ended up in the underground casino parking, again for the third time that day. I hate having to walk through the casino to validate the parking ticket. The whole casino vibe makes me sick. Via [a late] Txt-message we learnt the afterparty was not in the city but elsewhere, so soon after validating the ticket we left.

My mother and sister danced with George Telek before he and the band had to leave for their flight to Australia. Our night however continued to the early hours of the morning. All and all it was a great day, from dawn to dawn.

Daft Punk

Seriously, that’s all I need to know. DAFT PUNK HELLYEAH! Recorded my own ring-tone to Around The World dont’cha know …yeah

According to Upcoming Film Scores, French electronica artists, Daft Punk, have been confirmed by Disney as having been recruited to score the much anticipated film, TRON2.0

If you’re familiar with the enigmatic duo who never show themselves unless dressed up like robots, you’ll know why this is freaking sweet, and if you don’t know them …How can you not dude, seriously, DAFT PUNK!

Daft Punk’s members Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter have been involved in various films before, but Tron 2.0 will be their first complete feature film score. The film, scheduled for a 2011 release, is helmed by Joseph Kosinski and will feature Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett.

According to industry news reports, Tron 2.0 will play as the “next chapter” after the first film, with Wilde starring as one of the heroes trying to help fighting the Master Control Program, the evil intelligence protocol that was the nemesis in the 1982 film.

Awesome.

Man, this guy better be in it, and by this guy I mean one of the Internet’s first celebrities, the one, the only, TRON GUY

Dr. Manhattan Over London

"Watchmens" Dr Manhattan

To celebrate the UK release of “Watchmen,” Paramount Pictures set up an amazing event at London’s River Thames by creating a vertical screen of water using the world’s biggest water screen projector to showcase Dr Manhattan.

This water screen measured an amazing 72-feet high and 100-feet across and was situated between the London Eye and The Shell Building. The event took place lastnight at 8pm GMT.

Paramount had the following to say:

Specially created, never to be seen again Watchmen footage, will be projected onto the screen to showcase Dr. Manhattan’s translucent and shimmering form in dramatic and gigantic effect – this really will be an excellent and exciting medium to see Dr. Manhattan in all his super human glory; and to watch him hover over the city in true Watchmen style!

China’s New Year, Lantern Festival, and an Unfortunate Ending

•March 5, 2009 • 2 Comments

BEAUTIFUL!

Marking the end of the Chinese New Year, the Lantern Festival takes place on the 15th day of the year – during the first full moon. People across Mainland China and Taiwan celebrate the festival in many colorful ways, from fiery folk traditions to firework displays and laser shows.

Unfortunately, this year’s festival ended on a somewhat sour note as an unauthorized fireworks show set an unoccupied skyscraper on fire in downtown Beijing, and one firefighter “Zhang Jianyong” lost his life fighting the blaze. Collected here are photos of the festival, and a handful from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel fire in Beijing.

OCTO-UPDATE: Nadya “Octomom” Suleman Says No To Vivid

•March 2, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Any dreams/nightmares of seeing Nadya Suleman getting her freak on have been shattered, as the OctoMILF has turned-down Vivid’s publicity stunt generous offer:

Nadya Suleman

She jokingly appeared to be wiling to negotiate, saying:

“Maybe in a year when the baby fat goes away. Of course, if I have more kids I may have to ask for $2 million.”

When Suleman stopped joking, though, she rejected the offer.

“Seriously, though, my mum didn’t bring me up like that,”

Suleman is quoted as saying.

“Besides, what will my 14 kids think when they grow up?”

You have chosen… wisely!
But seriously 8; I’m sorry 14 kids?! And no Father figure?! Lady… How wise was that?
