Robin Williams’ Final Message of Hope to a Kiwi
•August 11, 2014 • Leave a CommentMonths before he died, actor Robin Williams made a video clip of support and “love” for terminally-ill New Zealand woman, Vivian Waller, 21, who is currently in an Auckland hospice suffering from lung, bowel and liver cancer.
She drew up her own bucket list in January and on it was the following: get married, celebrate her 21st birthday, see her daughter celebrate her first birthday and meet Robin Williams. The Wallers married in February, a month after finding out Viv was terminally ill. Vivian, being too ill to travel, was “thrilled beyond belief” when one of her friends reached out to Robin, who immediately recorded and sent this clip:

The Macaque Monkey Selfie — Wikipedia Won’t Take down Because the Monkey Took It

Long story short; British nature photographer David Slater, while in the volcanic dry tropical rainforest in the far north of Sulawesi, had his camera hijacked by a Macaque monkey who on discovery of the shutter button, took many many many hundreds of photos, with one in particular happening to be this exceptional selfie:
This now famous photo has been exploited over the internet for free (non-profit public domain material) and David Slater wants it taken down because it is jeopardising his income, only Wikimedia, the organisation behind Wikipedia, has refused the photographer’s repeated requests, claiming that because the monkey pressed the shutter button and took the photo, the monkey “owns the copyright” claim, not Slater.
What a case! I think the issue has since been resolved, as pictures on Slater’s site now have watermarks over them. What a terrific photo it is though. Doesn’t it seem ironic that a monkey took the best selfie that will ever be taken? You could say, that monkey made a monkey out of people.

•August 8, 2014 • Leave a CommentComplimented a girl today. Shivani. She had highlighted her tips green which looked petty cool. It would have been exciting if she told me she stylized it after Laura from the comic book The Wicked and the Divine (see below), but that wasn’t the case; which sort of makes her cooler in a way. She just smiled. Biggest university in the country and I have yet to meet anyone who is into comics! I should probably find some graduates, I bet they know where it’s at. Point is, unlike these mortal Gods who live fast and die young; one meaningful compliment a day keeps monotony away, cross my heart.
Every ninety years, twelve Gods come back and possess the bodies of young people, who die after two. I only began reading WD last week, but it looks promising.
And because that title makes no sense without any reference to wham; here’s Wham!
