Save Your Progress the Final Fantasy Way

I want it! The best part is, I can just print one off. The iconic blue box and white glove is undeniably recognizable to those who have given hours of their life to playing the quintessential role-playing game this comes from. I never thought of it before, but save-game dialogue boxes would make for the neatest/geekiest bookmarks:

“Game of Thrones” Time Warpped

•June 27, 2014 • Leave a Comment

Luigi Donatello produced a version of the GoT theme song that makes Westeros sound like the decade of big hair and bigger synthesizers. In the name of Blog DarkintheBoy of the House WordPress, First Of His Name, you’re hereby deemed, blog worthy:

If the 80s-early-90s vibe rubs you the right way then you might like seeing the Game of Thrones crew dressed for the fashion period — heck, they already have the theme song. Mike Wrobel aka Moshikun, is the artist responsible for these too cool images, and has no association with Donatello whatsoever; I just think they complement each other well:

Still friends as middle age men, that’s true bromance. Of course, they probably don’t even know one another, but the photo opportunity must have been too strong to resist.

Dildo Safety PSA [WTF commercial]

•June 26, 2014 • Leave a Comment

You know what happens when an advertising agency tries to juxtapose a serious issue in regards to child safety with something sexual, believing their own crude humor can be harnessed into something creative and profound? We get a lame, ineffectual waste of everyone’s time. And I hate seeing good dildos put to waste!!!

The only thing gun related in that video was the word, superimposed at the end of the announcement, and as short as the video is, it just seems pretentious. The fact the mother’s didn’t actually react, at all, proves that this advert doesn’t address the issue of ‘safety’ on any level of concern. They just stand their watching their kids whack each other with vagina instruments. As a viewer, I just watched two kids whack each other with vagina instruments. Embarrassment doesn’t save lives [advertising] people. Although, it might still be worth a laugh, depending on how well this is received by the gun & Bible folks. Their valued opinions could grace us with a punchline we were all hoping for.

‘If you thought yo-yos and chatter rings were cool, wait until you’re an adult!’ — Pitch for a new line of toys; introducing, the Gundo. If that public service announcement is anything to go by, I think I may have found a market. See how easy that was? Someone should fire someone and give me their job. No jokes. Dildos are a serious matter.

A Time-Lapse Map of Every Nuclear Explosion Since 1945 by Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto

•June 26, 2014 • Leave a Comment

We all know enough about nuclear weapons and explosions to understand their one and only function, but this video illustrates their usage throughout human history like no text-book has the power of conveying so graphically. All you need to know is that pretty much every country with nuclear capabilities, are all a little crazy, in my opinion.

The video is 14 minutes long, so if you don’t have the patients to watch, just let it play in the background. The amount of blips is sure to shock you:

Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto has created a beautiful, undeniably scary time-lapse map of the 2053 nuclear explosions which have taken place between 1945 and 1998, beginning with the Manhattan Project’s “Trinity” test near Los Alamos and concluding with Pakistan’s nuclear tests in May of 1998. This leaves out North Korea’s two alleged nuclear tests in this past decade (the legitimacy of both of which is not 100% clear).

Each nation gets a blip and a flashing dot on the map whenever they detonate a nuclear weapon, with a running tally kept on the top and bottom bars of the screen. Hashimoto, who began the project in 2003, says that he created it with the goal of showing “the fear and folly of nuclear weapons.” It starts really slow — if you want to see real action, skip ahead to 1962 or so — but the buildup becomes overwhelming.

“This piece of work is a bird’s eye view of the history by scaling down a month length of time into one second. No letter is used for equal messaging to all viewers without language barrier. The blinking light, sound and the numbers on the world map show when, where and how many experiments each country have conducted. I created this work for the means of an interface to the people who are yet to know of the extremely grave, but present problem of the world.”

Ahem… I don’t know where I’m going. Writing. Schooling. Reporting. Working. Living towards… But I know what I want — to write great stories and share a part of me through my creativity, a vision of our world that maybe is inaccessible or considered rare or exotic to others, as any good story or great photograph or painting or beautiful song has the power of inducing — feelings of wanderlust and excitement. I am a writer. Before I am too old to self-motivate, I have to produce a story worthy of your time and will my identity into existence. Only then, I believe, will I find meaning.

Da Vinci Vitruve Luc Viatour - drawingpen, ink and wash on paper - 1492

The Vitruvian Man (Le proporzioni del corpo umano secondo Vitruvio) by Leonardo da Vinci, 1490

My dream goals: a novel. A feature film. One track played on the radio. A comic book. A photographic series. An epic poem. A handwritten love letter sent halfway around the world. An art exhibit. Many acts of random kindness. A role model. And eventually, a source of income to the ones I care most for. Most of which are all, essentially, mediums for telling stories and inspiring them. I have shared on this blog so many wonderful things from so many wonderful people from around the world, fanning the flames of inspiration; I would very much like to feature on the ethereal timeline of humanity — but I will settle for someone else’s blog — and become one of those everlasting flames.

David Lynch’s Hair & Its Fine Art Equivalents

David Lynch is one of my favorite directors of all time. He has personality, is creative, has utter control over the dark concepts that manifest from within the depths of his creative mind, he’s a transcendental meditation guru, loves coffee, and has an amazing head of hair! There is plenty of Lynch related content out there, but I recommend you try this website for more Lynch in your life: http://welcometotwinpeaks.com/

David Lynch’s hair probably warrants its own fan club, but these flattering comparisons will have to do — San Francisco-based creative, Jimmy Chen, has taken the legendary filmmaker’s various hairstyles and juxtaposed them with an equivalent famous artwork:

Apart (Mid-air Brilliance) — The Bittersweetness of Our Memories & Dreams

•June 25, 2014 • Leave a Comment

Going to hibernate for a while
Feeling a little inessential
How I felt, down to the way she walked — I remember
Those butterflies telling of true potential

Too deeply my heart aches
For rich were my dreams of her & us
What good are my expectations in this world
“Be given our lady’s bidding to discuss”

One look and I see the embodiment of my desires
Unattainable
Therefore I must, to save myself from impending depression
Become the executioner of my own lust

I will forget my dreams upon awakening
But honor the beauty she awoke in me from the start
And if we should never fall in love — take solace in knowing
In a way, we have become closer apart.
