The Classical Comeback — Dvořák “Symphony No. 9: Allegro con fuoco”

Bclassic-1

As presented through the interpretive stylings of Korean dancers. Believe it or not, it’s been 300+ years coming, but this is the world’s first classical-music music video ever made!

Bclassic-2

Genius! I made a conscious decision a few years ago to limit or plain avoid posting videos of an overtly risqué nature,* but lucky you, I find this less sexual and more amusing than anything, so voilà — Korean dance group, Waveya, booty shaking to classical music in the hopes of converting you music lovers to the underexposed genre that is classical:

B-Classic presents The Classical Comeback: a new music video format that gives classical music the same recognition as pop and rock music by combining the timeless emotion of classical music through a contemporary lens.

…I didn’t realize how much I liked classical music, ahem. This does seem less like an attempt at praising classical aristocratic music, and more of an experiment to challenge the mentality people have towards what they consider “low” and “high” art. Is this promoting classical music to a younger generation by engaging with attention spans really going to effect any change? Seems fleeting and too subliminal for my liking, but I like the uniqueness of the project. Or maybe it’s all for the love of twerk and I have been found guilty of loving? It’s well choreographed I will say that much. …I have confused myself… Check out the website to learn more about the B-Classic Music Festival:

B-Classic is an innovative Belgian classical music festival that leverages the power of classical music to engage new audiences — without compromising on quality.

Well if all else fails, at least it made it to Youtube, the modern concert hall, and if generation twerk doesn’t start a trend, we will always have the exemplary episodes of Looney Tunes to turn to wont we, music lovers. Thanks, Belgians — A for effort.

What? You’re still dubious about how amazing and versatile classical music can be?! I’ll just leave this here, while you contemplate the seriousness of this prestigious artform:

90s Music! CBC Music presents some of the most memorable gibberish from alternative rock bands of the 90s, aka lyrics you can nail even when you’re drunk — Here are The doot-doot-doos, whoa-ohs, na-na-nas, and ooh-oohs that defined a decade:

H E E Y E A H   Y E A H   H E H   H E H   H E E E Y E A A H   Y E A H!!!

Oh, my Glob! Jaw-dropping stuff — These incredibly narrow near-misses (no one is hurt) will get your heart racing fo sheezy:

Phew! I need to show this to my brother. I’m so relieved no one was seriously injured, but my goodness there are some extremely stupid people out there, endangering lives.

Extremely Zany Commercials by Animator Peter Chung

Speaking of the California Institute of the Arts, Korean-born Peter Chung studied animation there and has worked in the U.S. animation industry since 1981. His style is visually distinctive and you may recognize his work from such shows as MTV’s iconic adult animated series Æon Flux, Phantom 2040, Matriculated from The Animatrix anthology, The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury, and Rugrats believe it or not.

Peter Chung Animations

I think it’s a bummer we haven’t been graced with anything recent by him, so I thought I’d dig up a few unknown gems to marvel at and add to our repertoire of angst ridden, cyberpunk, dystopian appreciation — Peter Chung’s animated commercials:

Rally’s Checkers (2000): Fuel Gauge / GForce /Johnny Law /
Big Chicken / Screamin’ Chicken Strips

My brain is so hungry for some extreme “High Performance Human Fuel” burgers right now! That has got to be the most gnarly hunger enticement I’ve ever seen. Where did we go wrong society? Here are a few more Peter Chung commercials he directed while under the employment of Acme Filmworks — Levi’s, Nike, Pepsi, Honda, Sony and more:

“Ninjettes” for Sony Bravia / “Cross the Line” for Mattel / “501’s” for Levi’s / “AT&T Business Advantage” for AT&T / “The Coupe Mission” for Honda / “G-Police” for Psygnosis

Ahh, G-Police; manning the throttle of your own high-tech gunship and fighting organized crime syndicates on the streets of planet Jupiter‘s moon, Callisto. First game I ever owned on PlayStation. I’ll do a separate post about that sometime. Here is the pilot episode for Æon Flux, because let’s face it, Rugrats is about a bunch of philosophical babies:

Dear Mr Chung, the world is waiting for you to warp our minds again!

No, I am not a fan of the toys in case you were wondering. My friend just so happens to be voicing, not one but, two Zelf characters (three altogether now) in this mini-episode:

Lil D is crushin’ on Angelala. Will she feel the same after their date?

Zelftacular, D!

The Secret of “A113” [crossovers & easter eggs]

•May 5, 2014 • Leave a Comment

Seen any popular animated movies recently? Chances are, it would have had “A113” hidden somewhere clever and inconspicuous — consider it the animators way of saying hello to their friends. If you’ve never noticed this before, prepare to have your mind blown!!!

The code “A133” is a ‘Easter egg’ — an inside joke — that refers to a classroom number at California Institute of the Arts. I could go on about how much I love Easter eggs like these, Pixar animations, anything Brad Bird has a hand in creating, and, well, mostly all things animated really, but I’ll let the pictures do the talking from here:
