Icky Blossoms “Cycle” [unofficial music video]

70s erotic celluloid never looked so good …ahem, the song is hot too — sexy even:

I thought about writing a disclaimer but decided against it. I don’t want what I post on my blog to be informed by other people’s sensibilities anymore, and leaving out all the bad stuff. Fact is, I like Cycles — no, I fucking heart it. Omaha electro-pop trio Icky Blossoms have garnered my attention.

The video was put together by David Dean Burkhart, who has a YouTube channel with loads more music videos made using his trademark technique of merging old footage with modern music. Here’s another sexy song with a Burkhart video I like, mostly for the odd factor, and a UFO may have something to do with it too:

Is This The Worst Greatest Con Man Ever Televised?

•December 12, 2013 • Leave a Comment

Yes. 34-year-old Thamsanqa Jantjie provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela’s memorial service, except he was gesticulating gibberish, interpreting nothing but nonsense from his own head for hours! I might’ve considered him a mastermind, had he accounted for the cameras and the international notoriety his mug would gain, not to mention his naive underestimation of actual people who actually use and recognize sign language when they see it, in Africa and around the world. This be one silly man.

Of the 15 million South African citizens, one man answered the call…no one understood the conversation (best logline for a film ever). The fact this man would have made money for an honest service is sick. Although, on a hypothetical notion, for souls no longer bound by the Earth — If you believe in some sort of transition after death thing — I imagine could view such an act amongst the well wishes of beloved ones as humorous and an endearing sendoff, telling of the fallible nature of mankind and the uniting quality of consequential empathy. Back to reality however, this was funny but an injustice to those who lack the capacity to interpret sound. This man’s charade was wrong though not I nor anybody else has a contract to condemn him. Jantjie has recently spoken to a newspaper claiming that he was suffering a schizophrenic attack and hearing “voices in his head“, but I remain skeptical along with South Africa’s deaf association. He’s a fraud and just one of many liars in the world who has found himself on television. What do you think?

Schizophrenia my birthmarked ass! Show him how it’s done Liz Lemon:

Gets me every time. Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short are the Three Amigos, who find themselves stranded in the Mexican desert:

Three unemployed actors accept an invitation to a Mexican village to replay their bandit fighter roles, unaware that it is the real thing.

FINAL FANTASY VIII

•December 8, 2013 • Leave a Comment

…This brings back memories. Still my favourite of the Final Fantasy series and currently on sale as a digital download for $11.99 on the Steam network. For an early Playstation game, FFVIII was impossibly long, at times incredibly frustrating, but ultimately unique and a rewarding and epic gaming experience if ever I had one.

If I recall correctly, there was one monster I couldn’t defeat hidden somewhere on the map out at sea. I even tried converting all my collected cards just to level up my guys. I still failed…but now I can seek my revenge, MuHahAha!

Prior to FINAL FANTASY 13, according to Square Enix, FINAL FANTASY 8 was the fastest-selling game in the series having sold over 8.5 million copies worldwide. Here is a leaked page telling of a few of the 45 newly established achievements the game has to offer: FFVIII Achievement Percentages. And just for good measure, here’s the awesome opening cinematic in case you needed an incentive to purchase:

If you like turn-based RPGs you should definitely give it a try. Some say it is the most romantic in the series which I would agree with, which also makes it the funniest in my opinion, taking nothing away from the action and story of course (dated graphics aside).

R.I.P. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela

South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, philanthropist and irrevocably the world’s most beloved statesmen, former president of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela has died, 95 years of age. His courageous words and actions played a powerful role in uniting South Africa.

South Africa’s first black president once served 27 years in prison. August 1962, Mandela was charged with inciting workers’ strikes and leaving the country without permission, and in 1964, already serving five years in prison, was again called to court and charged with four counts of sabotage and conspiracy to overthrow the government. At the opening of the defence’s proceedings, Mandela gave an inspirational four-hour long speech. He was given 18 more years. During his time locked away in his cell, Mandela began correspondence studies for a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of London. It wasn’t until 1990 amid escalating civil strife that an international campaign lobbying for his release was granted. He focused his life towards and succeeded to abolish apartheid and establish multiracial elections in 1994, ending white minority rule in South Africa. Many know or are certainly aware of the character of this truly inspirational man — Nelson Mandela was a true hero in every sense of the word.

Snowflakes: Phenomenal Pieces of Frozen Molecule Art

•December 4, 2013 • Leave a Comment

Snowflakes are a combination of chemistry and nature’s persuasion culminating in a fleeting array of beauty that can only be described as serendipitous. There’s absolutely no reason why snowflakes have to look so pretty, but they just gosh darn are!

Could you believe that an outdated, consumer model camera and a few strips of gaffer tape could be converted into a high-definition macro capturing tool powerful enough it’d make the Hubble telescope blush in envy? Lucky for the skeptics, Russian photographer Alexey Kljatov has photographic evidence of how this inexpensive DIY feat can be done. Kljatov’s technique; he removed a 44M-5 Helios lens from an ancient Russian Zenit camera and attached it backwards to a (2010 model I think) Canon Powershot A650:

Here are the stunning results — see more @ Alexey Kljatov flickr page (ChaoticMind75):

How do water molecules naturally form to become teeny tiny flakes of frozen geometric shapes? If only I could find a short, informative video on the process. …Found:

Argh 30th of November!

The Amorphophallus titanum, aka the “corpse flower” is said to be flowering sometime this weekend at the Auckland Domain Wintergarden. When it blooms, a huge column at the heart of the flower will rise towards the sky and give off a stench resembling decomposing flesh, a supposed pheromone for insects.

The New Zealand annual Ukulele Festival is happening at Waitakere Trusts Arena which is a great event that promotes to engage with children, no matter their circumstances, to experience the many benefits of being engaged with music. My cousins will be there performing.

It also happens to be Beer Appreciation Day IV, held this year in Auckland for the first time at Pioneer Women’s and Ellen Melville Hall. Try  a selection of beers from some of best of breweries, including Parrotdog, Garage Project, Liberty, Hallertau, Zeelandt, Tuatara, Bach Brewing, and more.

The largest community-run festival in New Zealand is the iconic Grey Lynn Park festival, also happening today.

Beautiful things happening today, and I’m going to lock myself in a dark theater with strangers for 24hours. Oy vey.

Sykurmolarnir “Ammæli” [music video]

The Sugarcubes (Sykurmolarnir in Icelandic) were an Icelandic alternative rock band formed in 1986 and disbanded in 1992. They received critical and popular acclaim internationally, and yes of course, that is the amazing Björk singing. “Birthday” (“Ammæli”) was their first single released internationally. This is the English version:
