Japanese Official Apologizes for Eating The Last Donut

•July 11, 2014 • Leave a Comment

Think of bad lip-reading, only with subtitles — When asked by the media about his alleged misuse of public funds, Japanese official Ryutaro Nonomura sobbed and ranted incoherently on national television. His crying cracks me up. His sob almost seems like a caricature of a comic relief, cartoon character. Rob Beschizza must have thought the same thing because he made the scandal more entertaining by adding silly subtitles:

What does Ryutaro Nonomura’s apology and donuts have in common? They’re not self centered. Get it? Doh! “ARGHAR-HAHAHA アイムとても残念!”

8-Bit Philosophy: Søren Aabye Kierkegaard — Episode 7 “Does Rationality Give Life Meaning?”

•July 9, 2014 • Leave a Comment

I found myself not liking this episode so much. Perhaps my own beliefs have influenced my capacity to reason on such a subconscious level that I automatically/instinctively disagree with Kierkegaard’s theory? But that means, I have just operated exactly how he described I should have…Right? Argh my brain!

Shatterhand Game Style.

I’m going to rant for a bit: “Truth is subjectivity,” OK, which is a mental construct of reality we all experience in a society, which operates in accordance with its citizens who (the majority of which) adjudicate decisions within that society based on utilitarianism informed by logic and not their passions; soooo, what I am trying to say is that there is no way subjective rationality gives life it’s meaning, for subjectivity is just as susceptible to corruption/influence as reason is, if not more so! Life is a great number of things and just is, regardless of how anyone defines it; ‘meaning’ itself is therefore — as Kierkegaard tried to evaluate it — a futile pursuit. From birth, the societies we live in define our capacity to reason both in accordance to it and our place within it, and rationality serves only the individual and not others, not society, and not life as we now know of it. In other words, rationality alone does not give life meaning, but is a significant part of our reason for living.

We all ought to live and choose the way we want. ‘Necessity’ however, now that is something worth philosophizing. I suspect Kierkegaard must have been ‘happy’ having adopted the teachings of a religion with an established system of rules for living, so much so that his above theory is of little to no validation for other people around the rest of the world, who aren’t Christians. I understand what he was getting at though. Sort of.

Phew, when I rant, I rant! …Yeah; but ultimately this:

LED Parkour Illusion for Lexus

Directed by Alec Berg as part of Lexus’ Amazing in Motion series; dozens of stuntmen, martial arts experts and acrobatic performers were rigged up all over the Kuala Lumpur skyline in LED suits to give the illusion of a single parkour athlete crossing the city — could this be the ‘coolest’ car advertisement ever made?

I think it may be, although, it’s not like I have memorized car advertisements all my life, so not only does it win by default, it leaves us with a striking piece of kinetic art to admire that will probably out last the success of the car model. I don’t have the money to afford it, but thanks for the entertainment Lexus. Behind the scenes footage here:

Everyday life could do with more headspins. Not sure why I find this so amusing (my youth could have something to do with it); but it’s brilliant:

DUI stopCar Crashes into Bike Race in Mexico ...ace driving

ARHG! Last month began with a speeding ticket ($81), followed the next week with a parking ticket ($200), the next week after that with a failed warrant of fitness check and service ($300), shortly after, rust repair to the left-hand passenger door at a panelbeater who only accepted upfront payments by either cash or cheque ($200), and finally, today, all that stress had come to an end as I renewed my registration for the next three months ($70). Believe it or not, I actually have a life (and don’t let the pictures fool you I am a good driver), but these past few weeks have been all about getting my car and expenses sorted. What a relief it is to not have to think about money. I AM FREEEEEEE!

And the cherry on top; I came home and fixed the toilet which made me feel productive and rather proud of myself. Turns out there was a twist tie obstructing the flush valve from sitting on the release pipe properly, but those are details I will keep to myself when the household wishes to thank me for my natural talents. Free plumbing is like a miracle in Auckland. It was meant to be.

July is film festival month so I’m happy about that too. Unfortunately however, before I was able to properly settle and enjoy my semester break, I was reminded with a phone-call from Tim about the commitment I had made to helping him fix instruments during this time. It figures; just when I was mentally free to have fun and drive wherever I wanted. Why do I feel like every situation of angst I face is somehow directly related to my faults as a human being? Dammit July!

If you have a wind instrument that is in need of service and repair, contact Tim Berger of Accent Music®, www.saxfix.com. Chances are, if the problem’s big enough it will probably be couriered to him anyway. He also happens to be an inventor with several patents pending, so you can trust that your instrument will be in exceptional hands.

Translated, I think the title is Chair Poulette,” and this nice story is about a girl and her, happiness, I suppose. There is no dialogue so anyone can interpret the visuals:

This social experiment (made in Auckland) proves that point, which should be an indication that the opposite is also true — positivity knows no bounds. Let’s all be nice.

Ahem…I just want you all to know, I think your curiosity for seeking out new ideas and thoughts makes you wonderful individuals. Yes you 😀 you are awesome!!!

Basement Jaxx feat. ETML “Never Say Never” [♬]

•June 30, 2014 • Leave a Comment

The first official single from the forthcoming album “Junto”, Basement Jaxx present “Never Say Never” featuring South London school-leaver sensation ETML:

“Junto” is released on August 25th 2014.

That is one funny concept for a music video, but the truth is, the depiction of technology and its application isn’t too far off:

Jordan Wolfson’s piece (Female Figure) 2014 is an animatronic robot that dances in front of a large mirror, while at the same time seeking eye contact with the spectator.
