This neat stop-motion animation by Marty Cooper (aka “Hombre_McSteez”) blends live-action environments with traditional animation cels, bringing the curious cartoons of the unseen world to life and brightening the mundane corners of our universe! This should leave you with a smile on your face:

Taika Waitit-ism & What He Does in the Shadows

•May 28, 2014 • Leave a Comment

Found a kiwi music video I like (from five years ago) and it stars visual artist, actor, writer and director Taika Waititi in his own side-scroller:

He’s kinda of a national treasure here in New Zealand. I remember meeting him at the KING OF KONG screening with Daisy that one time…should have taken a selfie. But the very first time I saw Taika’s talent was in his 2004 48Hour Furious Filmmaking Competition submission where he and Loren Horsley embodied several amusing characters:

On top of creating award-nominated films, orchestrating visually ingenious music videos, and having his own Wikipedia page; this fella was cordially invited to present himself at a prestigious TED conference!

The man is good, I tell ya. Here is his newest film soon to be released, and it looks bloody hilarious:

The official trailer for the New Zealand vampire comedy “What We Do in the Shadows, directed by Jemaine Clement & Taika Waititi, about three vampire flatmates coping with the modern world.

Denmark’s “VOTEMAN” PSA — Vote, or else this guy will probably touch you inappropriately [NSFW]

•May 27, 2014 • Leave a Comment

This crude, insanely violent and pornographic public service announcement was officially commissioned by Danish Folketing (parliament) and actually broadcast on Danish television in the hopes of encouraging young people while informing the nation of the importance of voting in the European elections:

I think the question on everyone’s mind is how exactly did the content of this manage to pass any vote? Skiing dolphins, interrupting couples mid coitus and smashing men and women through glass windows to get them to the voting booths seems rather needy and extreme (just a tad). I’m not complaining about the cartoon, — it’s far from boring — just it’s political connotation. The fact this has ties to government with a democratic majoritarian representation system of voting seems incredibly misinformed and I would be wary of whoever is in charge of your country’s public relations right now, Danes.

I admit to enjoying some levels of cartoon violence, but I am pretty sure this isn’t considered normal even by Denmark standards, but if it is…how do I apply for residency?

On Wednesday, a Renegade will fall. Valiant’s ongoing series will kill off one of the main characters from Peter Stanchek’s super-powered group of renegades. They each have their own quirks and strengths within the team dynamic, but I can see why a death may be needed to fuel everyone’s resolve — the story’s arc of revenge is dwindling.

My prediction — I have the feeling that Charlene Dupre/Flamingo (power to generate and control flames) will die. She was an exotic dancer with a troubled past and in an even worse relationship. Her biggest character development happened in the first couple of issues of her introduction and ever since she’s been a really cool friend and voice of reason to Faith Herbert/Zephyr/Zeppelin (ability to fly) and John Torkelson/Torque (powers of enormous strength and durability). Flamingo felt fully fleshed out right from the get-go, but to me now, she’s lost her hot-headed, sassy flame.

I hope I’m wrong though.

That’s right; the Triantafilo family cat, Tara, rescued four-year old Jeremy from a vicious dog attack, flying in from out of nowhere like it was launched from the pizzeria cannon!

Haha, pizzeria cannon …Too young to understand that reference eh? I’m so sorry for your loss.

Speedy Cerviche (Yattarou), Guido Anchovy (Sukashii), Polly Esther (Pururun) would be proud. The kid is fine, so on with the viral parody — Super Sayian Cat!
